Exactly.
That being said though, of those choices, I'd take the Audi. [ July 30, 2012, 01:01 AM: Message edited by: wilit ]

Audi's are a maintenance nightmare! They will nickel and dime you to death! Every little issue will require a trip to the dealer. BMW E90 335ix if you want all wheel drive, luxury, power, and 4 doors with great handling and can still be wrenched on in your driveway.

BMW is a better choice, everybody i speak to about Audi's say that everything is a pain to work on especially if you're doing the work since most of the time you have to drop the engine in order to do major work since they've stuffed the engine compartment with the blowers and such. AWD to me means more axles and components to go out.

I LOVED my S4, but they can be costly to fix.

Most people who complain about the cost Audi maintenance don't turn their own wrenches. Yes, they can be a PITA to work on and there have been some things where I was glad to fork over the money to a pro. But, if you have the skills and the tools, then the cost of repairs shouldn't be too bad. This is the case for ALL German performance cars...AMGs, Ms and S. Cars get cheaper over time, parts do not.
My S4 Avant Stage 3-, Tip w/paddle shifters will be for sale soon after baby #3 arrives. If only it could fit three car seats...

Stay away from the Audi B5 generation, nothing but tranny and ignition coil problems. I would not own anything German without a warranty personally.

I don't have an S4 , but I have a B5 V6. It has been a great little car, I found it easier to work on than my 97 Cobra I had. I bought a manual to do repairs and what not on the car, the only thing I paid to get done was head up display on the dash, the pixels went out due to sun damage. I have read that it is very common on all VWs.
Rule of thumb, once you buy a used VW, Audi, and etc. Pay to get the timing belt replaced. Its the number one reason many die!
But buy one, you will enjoy it. I'm glad I got my A4 over a Linlcoln Ls that I was in the market for.

Audis aren't that bad to work on, just a little intimidating at first when you see the first step to almost any service is to pull the front end off lol. They are nice cars but expensive parts!
