Topic: copper heater core???

I have called all the chain stores looking for a copper heater core and all thay carry are the cheap chinese aluminum ones I didnt want to order one from LRS for a 100+ and to repair my old one it would cost 140 WTF???

ok I have started to tear my dash out to get a head start I've called NAPA,KRAGEN,PEPBOYS,AUTOZONE,FORD,AND ACOUPLE OF RADIATOR SHOPS. And all only list and carry the aluminum ones. The rad shops quoted me 140+ to recore mine [ January 23, 2012, 07:04 PM: Message edited by: JZTRK ]

ok so total tear down was an hour where are people getting the 10hrs to R n R from

people being scared haha.. i replaced mine with one of the newer ones they supply and havent had a problem yet.. i dont even have the flow resticter in my heater lines either just giving you some feedback on them..

88fox dose it crank out the heat like a copper one dose I know the heat transfer is not that good on the aluminum ones

well right now im running a 160 thermo and in this weather the car barely gets warm so i cant tell you a dead on accurate answer but it is warm i bet with a 180 thermo or 192 it would be hot.. to my understanding aluminum dissipates heat better then copper so i would think they do a better job at throwing off the heat but ive also heard its a matter of opinion.. but imo if your having a hard time finding a copper id just throw in aluminum.. I went from copper to aluminum. Performance is the same. I wouldn't worry about getting a copper one.
