I've got 3.73's and I make 5whp shy of 400whp, currently H/C/I & Vortech V3 @ 5 PSI.
First gears useless as shit, second pretty useless, third is ok I guess and freeway is retarded.
2600 RPM @ 65-70 is just crazy, coming from 6 SPD this is not the business.
I want to have a useable first gear, are 2.73's ridiculous of a choice, or 3.08's? It's blown so the longer im in my RPM Range the better.
I wouldn't mind around 1900 RPM's on the freeway, so if someone wants to trade rear ends PM ME. It's a 8.8 4 LUG rebuilt clutches with 3.73's, looking for lower than 3.42 [ December 19, 2011, 10:27 PM: Message edited by: Catfish ]

Stick with the 3.73s and change some suspension parts up first and better tires....guys hook on the street with twice the power you do....I've had that combo with more boost and it was badass....a 3.55 is the lowest. I would go on a blower car....2.73-3.27s, your killing the car when you shift...

What kind of tires are on there now? I have stayed with 373's from 200 to around 600 now, I needed a little more gear so I put a taller tire on and it worked great! I would go with at least 275's and put some ET Street's and see where You are at. It's almost impossible to hook a stick on the street in 1st gear no matter how much You drop the gear's & going from 373's to 355's will only drop Your freeway rpm about 200 so it's up to You if it's worth the money to do so. If You are on street tires then You are going to need DR's any way You slice it up so start there.

Are 3.27's an option, I'm looking for around 2100 freeway. I know people hook with twice, I just want a good freeway and drag car. So 21-2200. 3.27?

What gear's are You running now. I went to a 27 inch tall tire and it definatley made a difference. I was in the same boat as You with hitting the rev limiter on My best run's at the strip.

im running 3.73s i love them with my h/c/i 302..but i will be purchasing an s trim here in a month or so and i got to thinking with all that extra power i may want a little more top end..3.27 should put me at 140mph at 6k rpm on 275/40/17..my main thing is avoiding 5th with my t5..4th hauls then 5th is such a slugish gear..im not a hardcore dragracer so e.t doesnt concern me much..what do you suggest?

You can HAVE my old rear end I just pulled out of my LX. There 3.08's. I swapped it for a 3.55 one. Its just sitting in my garage. I have the parts to rebuild the clutch pack too. Its a brand new kit that I was going to use but got the 3.55 rear instead. 40 for that. LMK.

. Depends, on the street no. If you are on freeway fifth is kind if your only option and its garbage as you don't hit full boost until 3500. Imo, it seems 308 or 323 makes fourth more useable [ December 20, 2011, 09:36 AM: Message edited by: Catfish ]

nope not really...they love to stay in the RPM range especially since they're power is range is RPM based....you drop too low on each shift, you're going to lose a race to someone who is geared properly

+1 On corn oil.
First is useless, so if you plan on a dig then you have to shift quite a bit unless you hook. I'm looking for a freeway type of gear, afraid 308 might hurt the car too much. What's everyone's opinion on those.

Gears don't sound like the problem at all. Suspension and tires. My boy who bought drews old terminator making 550+ hooked super hard on the street with 4.10s in all gears thanks to a badass suspension and some good ole nittos

had 3.08s before and they dogged in 4th gear...best bet would be a 3.55 for that happy medium.......
