I never post. But I really want some opinions. Where should I get my car tuned gona get a procharger installed hopefully by xmas. I was thinking on going to nextgen in hayward but im.sure there are plenty other places out there any suggestions and I know neither of the places will be cheap. Thanks

If you want the best tune money can buy, drop your car off at AED. They are in Sac, but well worth the extra drive. www.aedhp.com

Most people will recommend some shop and that will be the most convenient option.
When I tuned my car, I purchased a wideband, and worked with a remote tuner where I sent him SCT data-logs and he sent me revised tunes until we got it right... This is the most cost effective way to go, and you will learn a lot, but it will be time consuming.

I don't disagree remote tuning isn't a good option (I believe Shaun at AED offers remote tuning BTW), but I doubt it would be cheaper. Do tuners offer a discount for this service, and how much was your wideband? I assume it would be cheaper to just pay a tuner like Shaun if you are local.

Good question...
For me here is how it stacked up:
If I tuned locally: - $500-600 for tune - $400 for handheld
If I tuned remotely: - $50 for tune (unlimited tunes for 90 days) - $400 for handheld - $200 for wideband (which I sold after tuning)
Of course the remote tuning will vary. The cheapest I've seen is about $50 and the most expensive is $300 or so... These are data-logged remote tunes that are refined (not some one-time mail order tune)... For $50 I was expected to know exactly how to operate my wideband/SCT tuner and although the tuner was helpful, I didn't expect any significant tech support since the tune was already so cheap.
I will say that tuning in general concerns me a bit. Tuners obviously receive a lot of pressure from their customers to deliver the highest HP numbers possible.
This typically involves leaning of the A/F ratio and increasing the ignition timing. The tuner will tune in one set of conditions. They may or may not pull a couple degrees of timing as a safety margin once finding that sweet spot on the dyno.
Then once the car is tuned, sometime in the future it experiences a whole spectrum of load conditions. That customer may be driving in warmer weather, with a hotter engine, maybe on some gas that isn't quite the octane that they think it is due to refinery variation, maybe even with a passenger or the AC on, and on a slight grade while going WOT, and all of a sudden that car that was a beast on the dyno is pinging like a SOB and you got a problem on your hands.
My point is that for the folks that are getting tunes, don't get too caught up in the peak number. Sacrificing 5rwhp peak to have a safe tune with plenty of safety margin is a very favorable trade-off in the long run.
My car made 305rwhp peak on 30.5deg timing. It made 300rwhp on 26.5deg timing and I feel a lot better beating on it with that safety margin. Here is the kicker... when I overlayed the two plots, although there was a 5rwhp difference in peak, the area under the curve was almost spot on...
My car is much funner to drive with the tune however... And primarily at part throttle since that is really where I can feel it. At WOT I can't really tell between a tuned vs untuned car in my uncalibrated SOP butt meter. But at part throttle it is really noticeable since the car is so much more responsive with the tune. Not a story, rather feedback from a satisfied customer. Shaun has tuned three of my cars now and my brother's GT500. All cars make great power and drive as good as or better than stock.

its a 2004 roush stock gt engine. If i can get a good tune around my area it would be perfect but if aed is really that "top notch" then i will probably be getting in contact with them

I've had all my tunes done at NEXTGEN, haven't complained yet

I called nextgen and seems like they are charging 450 for tuning and 150 for a chip? i already have a handheld i just recently picked one up. so they seem to be more expensive than aed at this point

I recommend you have Shaun from AED tune it for you. He knows his stuff and will explain everything to you. You'll the most power you can safely get out of the car and it will drive like/better than stock...

Nextgen tuned my car n/a and w/ spray and I have no complaints. Made good power on both tunes
