Any European guys here? How much does a swap for a BMW cost?
I have a friend that just wrecked his, 2003 BMW M3 and he wants to sell me the whole drivetrain for relatively cheap (Motor, trans, rear end). I know it's a far streched question on a Ford site but from the diversity of members here I'll ask anyways.
AND no I don't want to just buy an M3, insurance wise and I just wouldn't have the heart to beat to shit an M3.

really depends on a lot of things, but that should be worth around $6-8k depending on mileage and condition.
I helped a friend do a swap from a wrecked 95 m3 into a 94 318 and it was very easy to do, I think he got the wrecked 95 for around $3k off a copart auction.
The m3 parts should swap into any e36 or e46 with minor fuss, the easiest swap will be one for the same year, but you could always swap the entire car harness to get it to work in pretty much anything.

Yeah the drive train is good it was his girls car. The only thing I am worried is my car is 5 speed with a clutch but that car has "tiptronic" or whatever where it doesn't need a clutch.

I dont think it would work that way, you'd either use the m3's tiptronic trans or use your manual trans. I'm not sure how compatible the 323 trans would be behind an s52/54? bimmerforums.com would probably point you in a better direction.

Yeah I'll ask on some Bimmer forums, that just made things complicated.

Hahaha seriously. I've been researching and it's not an easy swap and it's a lot of money even with the whole drivetrain.

It cost too much so thanks for the help Blind, I'll probably just be checking out the 2011 M3's or 2012's, I'm tired of Fords. [ November 21, 2011, 10:51 AM: Message edited by: JUNKYARD5.0 ]

Do not get a new M3, they're over rated, a 335i with a chip rips on the new M3s

lol, it's not that hard if you know how to turn wrenches and plug connectors in.
backed into my driveway on a friday as a 4 cylinder 318is, drove away sunday afternoon fully swapped with m3 parts front to back, including most of the interior and gauge cluster.
it's not rocket science
