Hey gentlemen,
Just wanted to start a brief discussion on the fastest production car you can buy for under $25K
That means no modifications of any kind.
Can you think of a faster car than the following:
- 03-04 Cobra - C5 Z06
And please none of this, 86-87 GN if you raise the boost or 87-93 fox with HCI and supercharger... Point here is stock.
Let's see if you can identify another car faster than the two listed above.
Just some baseline rules:
- 100% OEM - Quantified by 0-60mph time, 1/4 mile, or power to weight ratio - Top speed doesn't matter since it's not practical on our roads [ October 10, 2011, 02:34 PM: Message edited by: Luke87GT ]

Probably isn't faster because of weight, but I would think an 04-05 E55 could be in the discussion and can easily be had for under $25k. Higher mileage Vipers also go for about $25k [ October 10, 2011, 02:01 PM: Message edited by: Wolfie351 ]

If you can live with 2 seats, nothing is a better deal. Evo or Sti are well rounded but lack the top speed, burnouts.

Good call on the 03-06 E55... These weigh around 3800lbs and run 115-116mph in the quarter so they would certainly take down a stock 03-04 Cobra and can be purchased for $20-25K depending on mileage. Good call on the viper too, but not likely for $25K or under.

I'm going with the Mercs myself..tan E55 or S55 with 470hp...pretty hard to beat in that range..

good point Dan... Let's quantify it.
We can use 0-60mph, 1/4mile, or power to weight ratio. Any of the major publications as a reference is fine with me.

forgot to add...please look out for woes on the Mercs as well..
my friend had one and it cost him around $3K and 2 months for an alternator....
overall he spent around $20K in maintenance for the 4 years he owned it.....pad around $80K for it and sold it for $10K.....
so yeah....be on te lookout for those issues as well....

So we are all on the same page thought wise..... Let's define " Fast " does this mean: quarter mile et? Lap times? High speeds?
If I had 25,000.00 to spend to go straight.... I'd say and AWD wrx or evo. ( do track tires count as not being stock? )
Track.... Cobra or Z06 ( that hurt to say )
High speeds...... Viper, cobra, z06 ( that also hurt to say LOL )

Formidable choice. However, with 276hp and a 0.08hp/lb ratio, it's not likely to surpass a C5 Z06 or an e55.
With more boost sure, but the point here is stock production car.

Fastest or quickest for $25k? You can find Lotus Esprit S4's for 25k. They're not super quick, but an honest 165 top speed. Mid-2000's AMG's are a good deal if you want to hit the 155mph limiter.

Let's not get into top speed here since it's not likely to take cars out to 160mph+ on our roads.
Let's stick to acceleration.

Fuck it, Imma say it.
1/4 mile times ONLY.
That way we arent comparing fuck tard drivers 0-60 times or traction control etc. We can actually see a MPH number at the big end.
So
FASTEST standing 1/4 mile.
Deal?
Oh and no top speed, we live in the bay area and JPH331 showed us all what that gets you.

Fine with me Dan. It's as good a metric as any for this discussion.
