Saw this on the news this morning. Pretty sad but that is really stupid they don't bring guns. I never go out into the wild without my shit. You never know what you'll encounter

People are crazy on here. No autopistol is appropriate for a large bear. .44mag is considered small up there.

Yeah I wasn't gonna say anything, but grizzlys are no joke. .44 mag is the MINIMUM pistol caliber. A lot of people think that's too small. Something like a .454 casull or .460 s&w would be more like it. A .410 shotgun isn't even remotely close to big enough even for a black bear, let alone a grizzly.

There is no pistol round that is considered a bear stopper. I've hunted up there several times and my brother lives up there. Look at the energy of even the biggest pistol rounds, they are small compared to even medium rifle cartridges. Bear guides typically carry a 375 H&H magnum rifle at a minimum in case they need to back up a hunter.
