302 - less weight and spin the fuck out of it, blow it up and replace it in a day.
351w - yeah more torque but 80+ lbs on your cars nose. blow it up and find some jerk tring to sell a million mile motor...excuse me, short block for $400 (its a roller cam engine so its worth it
if you go 351w make it worth the weight and stroke that shit to 400+ cubes

What's your budget? Don't forget that with the cost of the new engine itself, you also NEED to upgrade to the V8 suspension. I bought a '66 that had the 6 cylinder suspension with a 302 and it ended up breaking a spindle while I was driving. Figure on spending at least another $600-$800 for the suspension.

The headers are a pain in the ass with the 351w but in the long run the 351 will be more streetable at the same hp level as a 302.

Unless you're going big... and I mean "cut the shock towers out and go Mustang II" big... don't bother with a Windsor in a '64 to '66 Mustang. Its too much trouble in a number of ways.

Find yourself a 289. They love to rev and are period correct for your car.

If you have small hands. Go 351. If you want some room to work. Go 302. If it was me..... I'd go 351 and buy some suspension parts...... I have some if you wanna PM we can talk.

Your actual budget and realistic goals for the car, are most important. If it were mine and the rest of the car was up to speed, it would have a nicely built 347. Good luck.

I would say for better fitment and less weight get the 302 and stroke it out to a 347 if you want the extra cubes....
