I love to se people workin on old skool cars, I paid a lil below 4 thousand. I didn't have much body work and almost no rust, but I had a new fiberglass hood, trunk, front valance and rear dual exhaust valance. So no work on that other than alignment. Hope everything goes well for u and have fun with it
Here's a pic of the finished product

Anywhere between 5k to 10k I think would be a fair price, 10k price would be you being able to get extra picky and being able to take a mic to every gap/edge and making sure it's even and on point, show quality type p.j.
Someone I know got a quote to repaint a camaro that's already a 9 out of 10 for 13.5k, so if u can get outta there for less than 10, and still be picky, I'd b happy.

That's a lot for paint. Especially for a mustang. If I pay that much. I'd better be in the mustang magazine somewhere. I'd said $2000 at the most if you do your own prep. But you can also find way cheaper. There are people who do good side work for $500 or so. Just prep your own car it'll save you a lot of money.

Only place that will paint a Mustang or any care for 2 grand is Maaco type of place. You're dreaming with your 2k bids.....

I'm painting a classic mustang. This price includes treating the rust so that it will be removed forever. I don't want to do anything other then drop the car off and pick it up. 2k paintjobs don't have the detail or care this car needs.

my neighbor has his car right now at his good friends shop in Oakland, he tells me they have a 69 mustang ready to head out the door. Call him if you want to see the work. I personally have seen their cars and they never do half assed work. www.markscustoms.com [ February 22, 2011, 01:43 PM: Message edited by: crazyhorse ]

IMHO you could never take the cheap way out when painting a classic because of the bold lines it makes shotty work very noticeable. Good think youre planning on spending 5k+, should be sick when it's done. You might wanna hit up Accurate Auto Body in Hayward by industrial right by tacos urapuan, talk to Ferman and he'll hook you up.

The first paint job I got on my '65 was $3200. It looked good from far, but far from good. I took it to a different shop a few years later and it wound up costing about $13k for a paint job that I can't take my eyes off of. The car is white with red stripes. The body is arrow straight now. They had to fix everything the other shop messed up which included drip rail repair, sanding runs out, fixing a rear 1/4 - trunk line, etc. The car was there for 9.5 months and I looked at it once a week or more. The fenders, doors, hood, trunk lid, glass, etc. came off to be painted.
I'm sure you could get a great job for less than 13K, but be prepared to spend a decent amount for a job you are happy with.
