Hey fellas I want to get hdmi cable for my ps3, and I need some help. Dont know much about these, and I dont know whats good. I found this one http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-Component-AV-Cable/dp/B000MIXFWA but not sure if its just the cable that comes with the ps3.
Also my tv is a little bit older sony, and Im pretty sure it doesnt have 1080p or i, but it is HD probly 720. Is it worth getting the hdmi cable, will I notice a difference on the game and movies? Thanks in advance -Ryan [ December 28, 2010, 12:32 AM: Message edited by: Ryan_LX ]

That what you pested is not a HDMI cable. It is basically a AV cable that is a lil better than the 3 channel type. You will not notice much upgrade in picture with this cable (also make sure your tv has 5 ports per signal). But if you do get a true HDMI cable you will notice a good jump in picture quality.
You will not find a better price than http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240
I buy all my stuff there. [ December 26, 2010, 08:43 PM: Message edited by: N8 ]

I was using a/v cables ever since I moved, and I finally found the box with my hdmi cables and when I switched back it was a big difference going from a/v to hdmi. I thought the movers stole my cables, but just packed them in a random box

Wow those are some killer deals, I've glanced at cables at the store before and I've seen them go for 100+ dollars. Any difference or is one just a huge marked up rip off?
@ n8 also on the link you posted, is the only difference between those the length? I'm not "tech savvy" when it comes to this sort of thing. [ December 26, 2010, 09:12 PM: Message edited by: Ryan_LX ]

If you're a Comcast customer, you'll get a free HDMI cable. Go to your nearest Comcast Store and save yourself a few bucks.

Yea the diff is the length. If you need help pickin a cable length I am sure we can help you with that too. Also the cable you will get from comcast will be for your cable box.
Also note not only will you have to have comcast but have their HD service/box. [ December 26, 2010, 09:17 PM: Message edited by: N8 ]

You can get better cables from the link I posted for like 1/4th that price. I never buy my cables in stores now.

HDMI cables are digital cables. dont get lost in the big $$$$ cables. why pay $50 for a 6' cable when you can get one online for $.50 +shipping.

yeah but it is the same as a $1 cable or $100 cable. HDMI is a digital cable.

For some reason even a legit reference hdmi cable that uses silver does not make a huge difference like it does with audio interconnects. My best guess is that copper can easily handle 1920 x 1080 over a short distance.

So here is what it looks like behind my tv. It clearly says its 1080i, but I dont see anywhere to put an HDMI cable. So what kind of cable do I need, just an A/V cable? From what you guys told me earlier that wont do much. Also the tv is form 04, and its an LCD projection tv. [ December 28, 2010, 12:32 AM: Message edited by: Ryan_LX ]

Yea you do not have a hdmi port. Looks like you have a older set. You will have to use the 5 channel component cable. You will not see much gain in picture with those as it is still a analog signal (I believe). Also you will not be able to take advantage of the comcast HD service with that.

Not entirely correct... He can still get HD signal with the component cables, and will still be able to utilize the Comcast HD service. Call me blind, but I did not see much gain in quality when comparing the component cables to an HDMI on my 55" LCD.
Comcast can provide a free set of component cables as well.
