that is exactly the issue, the military is more of a fall back plan for most people especially since the economy collapsed and jobs have been hard to come by. your average person in the military these days is from the lower class who cant afford a decent collage and are trying to just get out in the world after high school and work and since its so hard to get a basic job they just join the military since they will take anyone and i mean anyone, they have wavers for just about anything. fail the asvab no problem, fail the drug test no problem, over weight and cant run or do push ups let alone sit ups? no problem
but when it comes to times of fighting a war, numnbers count and if you havent done your time then shut the fuck up or put some work in becuase even if they cant count they can still pull a trigger and follow orders
like said above it doesn't take brains to shoot a gun and not everyone gets into a leadership position
