I am looking at picking up a nice reliable DD for my lady, & we are looking into a few different options in the $3000 to $6000 price range. Since we are not working with a ton of cash, & obviously this will be partially financed, most of the cars will be over 100k miles, so we want whatever will be the most reliable. Gas mileage is not that big of an issue, but the car MUST be an automatic, & must be 4 door. What would be the most reliable out of these options?

=1993-2000 Toyota Camry
=1994-1997 Honda Accord
=1995-2001 VW Jetta

Any particular known issues or problems with either of these cars that I should look for? 4 cylinder & V6 doesn't really matter to me, just want an extremely reliable car that I can be driven daily & can be taken on road trips to Oregon.... My 86 Jetta has been great to me & is VERY reliable, but IDK much about the newer models. If it was up to me, I would be buying her a nice Crown Vic, because I know how cheap, reliable, & comfy they are, but my lady HATES vics LOL...

Thanks in advance...

my fiance has a '97 camry that was bought new by her parents. it only has 98k miles and has been super reliable. change the oil and do the regular maintenance and you should be happy for years to come. the only problems we've had with the car was the a/f ratio sensor went out(can be pricey) and of course with these little motors you have to change the timing belt and waterpump at their scheduled interval(pricey as well). i've also replaced pass. and driver axle shafts. other than that the 4cyc. has been great. it ugly as shit and i can't wait to sell it, but it's reliable and gets 29-30mpg.

actually we're passing it down to her little brother when he goes off for college.

btw, i think the honda or toyota is probably going to be cheaper as far as maintenance goes.

Thanks... that is what I wanted to hear. I know they arent the best looking cars, but they don't look bad, & 1 of the best things about them, they have the same bolt pattern as 94-04 Mustangs LOL...

You can get a decent late 90's Acura TL in your price range. Awesome cars... Honda reliability plus luxury comparable to a Lexus of a similar vintage...

I know, I saw a few of those on CL, & I have always loved the TL's of that vintage. How reliable are the RL's, because I saw a pretty nice dark green one for a nice price...

RL's might have a few more issues... since they're the top-of-the-line Acura and have a few more gadgets and such...

Still a Honda product so, can't really go wrong.

BTW, whats up with the leather on the Acura's? is it supposed to look loose & wrinkled like that? It seems all of the ones I have seen on CL look that way...

Civics are too small. Accords are perfect though.

Yup, I have heard all about the trans issues with the automatics, that is why i was looking into the 94-97 Accords. My buddy worked for HAP (local Honda wrecker), & he says to steer clear of the 98-2000 accords with automatics. Acura's as well.

You are probably right, but I think its safer to park a Camry outside than a mid 90's honda.
