With his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. all but off, Manny Pacquiao has instead agreed to fight Joshua Clottey on March 13 at a site to be determined, Pacquiao's camp said Friday.
Clottey's manager told ESPN.com's Dan Rafael that he spoke to Pacquiao's promoter, Top Rank's Bob Arum, on Friday about the fight's details but would only confirm a "seven-figure" purse.
"Josh is ecstatic about it," Vinny Scolpino told ESPN.com. "I think we can get this done in a couple of days. He's coming home [to New York from Ghana] on Monday."
The Pacquiao-Mayweather bout, which had also been tentatively set for March 13, was called off Wednesday night by Arum after mediation failed to resolve their issues over drug-testing protocol.
Clottey (35-3, 20 KOs) last fought in a split-decision loss to welterweight titlist Miguel Cotto on June 13, a fight many believed Clottey won.
"It's the biggest payday he ever made in his life," Scolpino told ESPN.com. "He should be doing flips. It's a huge opportunity."
Trainer Freddie Roach first told ESPN's Brian Kenny of Pacquiao's plan Friday afternoon, before Arum confirmed the news to The Associated Press.
Clottey had last been slated to fight Carlos Quintana on Dec. 5. But that undercard bout was called off when Kelly Pavlik pulled out of the main event against Paul Williams with a lingering hand injury.
Mayweather maintained Thursday night that he still wanted to fight Pacquiao. The final issue in the negotiation for the megafight was drug testing.
"That would have been a tremendous fight. I wanted to see it," Scolpino said. "But this is boxing. It's crazy."
Pacquiao and Mayweather had agreed to unlimited random urine testing, but Mayweather also insisted on random blood testing, even though the Nevada State Athletic Commission, which would oversee the bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, requires only urine testing.
Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) didn't want blood testing but later relented and agreed to three blood tests: one during the week of the kickoff news conference, which would have taken place next week, one random test to be conducted no later than 30 days before the fight and a final test in his dressing room after the fight. Mayweather (40-0, 25 KOs) would be subject to the same testing procedures.
When they could not come to an agreement, Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Mayweather, turned to a mediator, retired judge Daniel Weinstein, who had successfully mediated a series of disputes between Top Rank and Golden Boy in 2007.
But after nine hours in mediation on Tuesday in Santa Monica, Calif., and further attempts to come to a resolution on Wednesday failed, the fight was pronounced dead by the Pacquiao camp.
Information from ESPN.com boxing writer Dan Rafael was used in this report.

Actually this will be a good fight honestly. I have Clottey in this one. I thought Clottey beat Cotto. And Clottey fought a "real" Cotto. Not the 147 Cotto that Manny fought. Clottey looked real good against Zab, I became a fan of his after that. Zab is much faster and stronger than Manny. So this should be a very good fight long as Manny doesnt make Clottey malnourished to make the weight clause.
I like this move by Manny. If he fought Yuri I would have sought manny out, and kicked him in his nuts. Manny gets a couple respect chips back. But not many.

Clottey is to slow. AND there is BOUND to be a CATCHWEIGHT! I think P.E.D.MAN will beat him without a problem personally

Yea the match weight crap is BS. I am really not likin Manny for that BS. I still have Clottey in this one. If Clottey fights how he fought Cotto, maybe not. But I like Clottey's style against Manny's style, even in the Cotto style. But he is better off fighting how he fought Zab and Corrales (angles and combos). CLottey. I just hope that he can come in at his natural weight which is usually about 150-ish, but he has fought a lot below 147. Plus Clottey is pretty damn durable. Yup I am still going with Clottey.

I predict mayweather will look to fight the Berto vs Moseley winner in May or June...fighting Malignaggi will be bad for him and Roach he said the would look at either Mayweather or the winner of Moseley vs Berto for the fall...Did anyone hear roach saying after drawing blood Manny doesn't feel good for 3 days? ok so how about 14 days before the fight?...

First of all, let me say that I'm Filipino, 100% ... but ...
Manny makes me sick. For someone that grew up in poverty, has been given a gift, and has been given this opportunity, to even b*tch about a blood test in the first place, disgusts me. There are other small issues that are holding the fight back, but we'll look past those for now.
You grew up in the streets of the Philippines, and can't take a needle? Man the F*** up. Yeah, you lost to Morales because you had to take a blood test a day before, AND you had to use gloves you didn't like, blah blah blah ... who gives a F*** .... Don't forget where you came from, to the millions of delusional filipinos that take pride in YOU, this is all bigger than that.
On another note, anyone whose been to the Philippines, knows about the juice. When I visited the Philippines and my family took me to some local gyms. I've never seen so many F***** huge Filipinos. There's no way they got that big eating rice and balut. I'm 5'8" 205, bench 355, squat 405, DL 455 and some of those guys made me look like an anorexic figure skater. Yeah, I look like that at the gym's around here, but usually they're black guys or big corn fed white guys, NOT FILIPINO guys. Even though Manny's never tested positive for PED's, it wouldn't surprise me if it ever came out that he's juiced before. It's tough for someone to gain almost 50% of his original weight and stay just as quick and fast, but not IMPOSSIBLE
Don't even get me started on his acting, singing, and political career. What the F*** does he know about any of that. He brings a lot of pride to Filipinos, but seems to me he's gotten soft, forgotten where he's came from, and is pissing away his opportunities. But win or lose, juice or not, Filipinos will still love him.
Manny's got 2-3 good years left. There's no way he's going to be like Bernard Hopkins fighting on a high level at 43 years old. I'm more of a fan of Nonito Donaire, local kid doing some good things. [ January 09, 2010, 04:20 PM: Message edited by: 98Snake ]

My personal opinion, Floyd didn't want the fight, because he has everything to lose ... BUT was willing to fight anyways. Manny has everything going for him right now, and gains that much more by beating Floyd. If Manny loses, it wouldn't be a surprise.

wow, now Roach is on one saying Manny gets light headed if he gives blood 3 days before a fight...lmao. But what about 14 days Roach? He did it for Hatton? And he beat him 2 rounds. Also he said Manny would have no issue taking the test(s) and so did Arum. Now he wants to talk shit about Floyd maybe fighting Paulie M. And they were the first team to bring his name up as a potential fight if the Floyd fight doesn't happen. But soon as Paulie said he wants testing and it was re-brought up that he was among the first to accuse Manny, they went to Yuri. Give me a fuckin break. Then everyone saw through that. So they went with someone that beat someone the person Manny beat. Instead of going with Bradley, P-Dub.... Wow why am I among one of the only ones seeing through this bullshit. But I do think Joshua should and will capitalize on this. I wonder if Manny will be putting up a belt? Joshua fights at 146-153 so a match weight might not be a issue.
I just want Manny to now curl up and go be a politician. I am gonna see the next fight because I like Clottey. But I no longer wanna see Manny fight.

Manny can beat Clottey without a problem. Clottey is too slow. I would not be suprised if Manny puts him away. I also think manny i gonna retire within two fights. He does not wanna tarnish his legacy by testing positive for roids. He "Should" have more than enough money to retire on but then again, I never thought Holyfield and Tyson would be broke..
