I've got my grandfather's medals in a frame hanging form my wall next to his 48-star flag from the time.

If you've got relatives of that generation, be sure to ask every question you can and write down their experiences. I regret not doing that before my step-father passed away who flew C-47s in the CBI theater. Luckily, I've got LOTS of info from my uncle who flew P-51s in the ETO and I even have his gun camera footage of his kills. 4.5 kills, almost an ace...but, if you ask him, he says he shot down more than that ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

WOW! That is truely impressive, you must be very proud of him. Military people (and their famalies)during WW2 really sacrificed a lot. Very nice of you to honor his service ![[patriot]](graemlins/patriot.gif)

My grandpa taught pilots how to fly B17s, he joined the military Dec 8th the day after Pearl Harbor. I didn't get to ask him about it but my family interviewed him extensively before he passed away and its all on tape.

Thanks John! He passed when I was a year old so I never really "met" him, but from everything I hear he was a great man. WWII was so much different from the campaigns nowadays in that everyone, from the those on the frontlines to the people stateside, participated in the war effort in one way or another. Also, it was unanimous that a war was necessary, so 99.9% of the people agreed with the idea and wholly backed the troops, unlike today.

Just to let you know, your flag is displayed incorrectly. When the flag is displayed either horizontally or vertically against a wall, the union should be uppermost and to the flag's own right, that is, to the observer's left.
