Anyone know much about laptops? Looking to buy one to use for tuning my car and general use like looking up things on the internet, cafords, etc. No gaming. Any help would be appreciated. I feel if I go to a store that sells computers, they will just steer me towards what ever they want to sell.

what kind of tuner for your car? If the tuner uses a USB port than almost any laptop will do, Dell has a deal right now on a netbook (ultra portable) for under $200.
but if you have an older tuner that needs a Serial or Parallel port, than your options are more limited.

Best buy has a killer deal right now where for 1200, you get a desktop w/decent specs with a 20in flat panel, a 15.4in laptop w/decet specs, a 10in netbook, wireless router and geek squad wireless network setup. I picked this up for my nieces and nephews yesterday.

techbargains.net - I saw some really good deals on some Lenovo laptops. I almost bought one for under $400. I've discovered that I don't like Dell at all anymore. Quality has completely gone down, and I'm sick of speaking to tech support when you can hardly understand them.
That deal that N8 mentioned sounds pretty good though from Best Buy. Is it the PC Home Makeover one?

Ummm...for tuning? What program are you going to be using as all tuning software that I'm aware of needs to use windows? And don't give me the "you can run windows on your mac" bs.

Why spend 3x's the money for what he is needing? Mac fanboys trip me out. I have several Macs in our office and it has yet to make me a better anything...lol. He can get by with a good dell and have cash left over to buy some new tires or something.

Check out the dv6z series or the G71t series if you want a 17" screen.
I would upgrade memory to 3-4GB and get the second fastest CPU (fastest you pay a premium for). If you can aford it get the 500GB HDDs.
You can get one starting for under $600.

Just a review on HP's those suckers are loud. Sound like small vacuum cleaners. And run a bit hot, but other than that they are cool.
