is there really a huge difference between a set of eibachs or H&R's comapared to a 100 dollar ebay set? ive always had eibach or H&R springs

cheapest they come, and they will most likely ride better than the (cheaper springs) but not as good as the more exspensive springs though, so cut them!

I've never had any qualms about cutting fronts, but I agree that cutting rears can be very dangerous.
By cutting from the bottom, you eliminate the tapered pigtail that hugs the control arm lip. By cutting from the top, the spring is no longer flat and results in a compromised "seating" of the spring in the upper perch.
I've cut rears before, but it makes me extremely nervous and I won't do it again.
Case and point... I once removed a cut rear spring from the spring perch by pulling on it hard with my hand. Scary!

+1 I've done several sets and never had an issue. One car has had the cut springs in it for like 6 or 7 years and it hasn't flipped over or burst into flames so I think your safe. cut a turn and a quarter off each coil and see how it sits.
