if i recall correctly, ford pulled the plug on the 99s because they failed so bad? something about a class action lawsuit for the motors not making anywhere near their claimed 320 crank horsepower, so i wouldnt even consider a 99, an 01 would be sweet though!
i like the looks of the 96-98s better... but maybe a 01 would be a good compromise?

yeah the 99's did have problems. i believe it was with the exhaust and tune? (correct me if im wrong) but they had a factory recall and most have had the fix and i also heard (correct me if im wrong) made more power than the 320 crank.

stock vs stock for a DD, I'd go with the 99/01, be nice to have IRS.
if you're going to mod it, get the cheaper one,

blue or green dot on the corner of the intake manifold, i forget which is which. they either acid dipped the intake, or extrude honed to smooth it all out.
99= plain GT interior, nasty chrome headlights, T45 tranny, 28 spline IRS. i would equate the 99 to a GT with a 4 valve motor.
01= 03/04 style interior, TR3650 tranny, 31 spline IRS, "COBRA" on the rear bumper.
those are the main differences. also, my car is dumped, and it rides like a caddy!! IRS FTW!
