I have been disgruntled for quite some time about the hours of operation for BART.
You take an average Friday or Saturday night, and BART has the last train leaving the Embarcadero station out of the city at 12:25am!
Why on Gawd's green earth would the damn thing not run until 2AM when the nightlife is just closing down? If its a budget issue with there being far too few riders at those hours, give me 1 train at 2am. That's all I ask.
I have been all over the USA, and find that most metroplitan cities have extended public transportation compared to the Bay Area. I'm wondering what the real reasons are?
Perhaps these may have something to do with it:
1.) The average DUI costs about $5000 when its all said and done. Does the city want to preserve its DUI quota and keep money coming in for the city?
2.) I'm sure the volume of riders is small between the hours of 12:25am and 2:00am which makes it difficult to justify keeping the trains running, but all I am asking for is one train. One single train at 2AM to take me home so I don't have to drink and drive.
3.) I'm sure that the average rider is going to be more rowdy during those late hours, and perhaps the Bart Police are trying to avoid this.
I can't tell you how many times I have headed into SF to party and been literally sprinting out of clubs/bars at midnight in order to catch the last 12:25am train (I live in Oakland).
BART, protect your riders and offer a train at 2am to get people home!

Yeah SF wants to make that money off the DUI 's and if you factor in everything for a DUI it's almost 10,000! (fines, class, lawyer, SR22..... )
P.S don't drink and drive

Yeah my buddy just got done with those DUI classes. He paid over 10 grand altogether. Not cool to drink and drive for the obvious reasons, but it def is a big business for cities and counties.
