I have had both and stuck with Directv for one reason. Sports! If you want the best NFL or NBA coverage get DirecTV. Comcast has on demand but less live HD channels.

I love Comcast, I have both their residential and business services. DirectTV has the whole set your DVR from your phone thing that I thought was tight. If you have big trees in your immediate view you may wanna not consider DirectTV. I have a 40ft maple and mulberry in my backyard that made directTV a no go for me. Also some people who are on directTV had viewing issues during the eletrical storm the other day and on most stormy days. You may want to look at ATT U-verse as well. Thats what I want at home but they do not have it in my area. But for internet you cant beat Comcast. Phone service I have honestly not noticed anything great about it. They do give you another modem for it. So if having 2 modems and a box bothers you..
Comcast has a lot of sport options....I havent chose any of them so I am sure what they are about. But there are tons of them. [ June 05, 2009, 03:17 PM: Message edited by: N8 ]

The hustle with comcast is that when that time is up call them and they will give you another promotion. You just cannot do it in the 6 mos. I have been doing that for 3 years now.

If you do a lot of downloading Comcast will throttle your bandwidth. I liked on Demand it was a nice feature. Oh yeah Directv customer service SUCKS. I liked both overall just check the channel selections and pick what's best for you. [ June 05, 2009, 05:05 PM: Message edited by: Scoobysnack ]

Direct TV only has one channel like that?
Comcast has Nick, NickJR, Noggin, Cartoon Network, Disney....
Long as either has ESPN, Cartoon Network, FX and Fox. I am good.

Of course they have more than that. DirecTV has more channels than Comcast, a better DVR, NFL and NBA package. The interference storm things is hype. I have seen my signal go out for maybe 5 seconds at the most and it has to be a serious serious storm which never really happens in Cali.
If all your looking at is TV Directv if you want a package deal of phone, internet and TV get comcast. [ June 05, 2009, 05:28 PM: Message edited by: TrueBlue ]

Direct TV blows away comcast imo. Comcast loses signal, scrambled signal or sound goes out, or screen goes black altogether. Direct tv RARELY gets a "scrambled" signal. better sports package and just plain better! Direct TV

Before you sign a deal with Comcast, make sure you're getting the programming they advertise. When I moved from Fremont to Hayward, my bill remained the same but I lost like 20% of the channels I had. Problem is, Hayward, San Leandro, and Castro Valley needed to upgrade their fiber optic network to be able to deliver the same services as Fremont/Newark/Union City. It was supposed to be completed in June of last year, but I haven't ever heard they started it due to franchise agreements with the cities.
Needless to say, I've had DirecTv for the last 3 years and haven't regretted it.

^^^ Those areas are now upgraded. Fully rebuilt systems. But your right. For a while it wasn't. The prices were lower to compensate for that however. Comcast is better. The only reason I have Directv as well is for the NFL ticket. ON DEMAND alone helps tip the scale.

F.T.A.. Free to Air. When I worked as a copier technician, most of the guys used these boxes. Some have used them for the last 4-5 years.

What Directv has is no where near the same as the Comcast ON DEMAND. You need to connect your box to an internet connection and download what programs you want. If someone wants a 3 package deal, Comcast is the best. If you don't care for internet speed or phone svc, and love the NFL, get Directv.

Not to mention comcast has some pretty funny commercials. I like the one where the turtle goes to the movies and the guy next to him tries to shut him up and he's like "OH WE GOT A REAL TALKER OVER HERE, A REAL TALKER" LOL
