"Back in the early nineties, my (then) agent offered me a job writing a book for "paranormal investigators" Ed and Lorraine Warren. As a boy, I used to read of their exploits in the National Enquirer. I took the job and flew to Connecticut to meet with the Warrens and the Snedeker family, who had moved into a house that used to be a funeral home, where they encountered demonic activity. That was the story, anyway. Ed and Lorraine were sweet and delightful. They assured me they had videotape of this demonic activity, which they would show me during my stay. I spent a lot of time with the Snedekers, interviewing them together and individually. The mother, Carmen Snedeker (now going by Carmen Reed) was running an illegal interstate lottery scam at the time, and she frequently reminded me that I was not to mention it in the book, nor was I to tell anyone. It soon became obvious that the Snedekers' stories were not meshing. They just couldn't get their stories straight so they'd fit into one coherent whole. Frustrated, I went to Ed Warren and explained the problem. "Oh, these people are crazy," he said. "All the people who come to us are crazy -- otherwise, why would they come to us? You write scary books, right? Well, just use what you can, make the rest up, and make it scary." This didn't sit well with me. I didn't like the idea of writing a book labeled as "non-fiction" when I'd been told to make it up. But I'd already signed the contract and getting out of it was just not possible, nor would it be a good professional move. So I went through with it. The Snedekers had a son who, at the time this demonic infestation story took place, was allegedly ill with some kind of cancer. I was never allowed to meet him. I was given the opportunity to talk with him on the phone, but that turned out to be brief. As soon as he started telling me that the "things" he'd seen in the house went away once he started taking medication, Carmen abruptly ended the conversation. I was never able to see the inside of the former funeral home in which all of this stuff had supposedly taken place because there were other people living there by then, and they wanted nothing to do with this nonsense. In fact, most of the people in that neighborhood were convinced that the Snedekers were full of shit and were just looking for some money and a little fame. The Snedeker family definitely needed help, but not the kind being offered by the Warrens. There was clear evidence of alcoholism, drug addiction, and possible domestic abuse. I was never shown the videotape of the "demonic activity" in the house. The Warrens' nephew, John Zaffis, was hanging around at the time, not really involed. Lorraine told me he was "learning the business." He claimed he'd experienced something in the house, but I didn't talk to him that much. He was the one who was supposed to dig up this alleged videotape, but it never materialized."

Soon as the used the word "Based" reality usually goes out the window as that is the clause that allows the movie director to take artistic license with the film. Still gonna see it.

Sounds like its BS to me if the original author just addmited he made the story up.
