Thanks. That's one of my motors. Last time I checked, ain't no JY long blocks which have been ho tanked, magnafluxed, X-ray'd, then completely rebuilt and rebalanced, with everything else I've added to this build.

Your signature says you have a "built" 96 Cobra Motor... if anybody here should understand WTF it costs to build a competitive motor for NASA German Touring Sedan, YOU should have a clue. That is, if you've ever really spent the bucks for a REAL motor build; at least enough of an idea to not go off half wit and call it a JY motor.

Not that I'd consider you a buyer, based on your attitude, but anyone else is more than welcome to check the motor out, pull the pan, look at the internals, etc., etc., etc..

No problem. I guess before I had all this professional work done, I should have asked you first to see what kind of awesome deal you would be able to get me for this exact same build... Didn't think so.

Yeah, you can get an actual JY motor and put some new AL heads on it, without doing anything else, and spend what? $2500? And that's it. Oh... so you have all the other stuff to make it more than just a JY motor w/ AL heads. And, how much did you invest in all that before the JY block? Adds up pretty damn quick, doesn't it?

lol actually he has like 12k in building his motor! that is besides the point. the point here is that its only a 302 that with a little power behind it is just going to blow up. u can call D.S.S right now and get the same long block but with 331 or 347 for the same price and it will hold 600hp. thats why people are saying lol!

Frankly, I forgot completely that I was a member of this group, or else I might have considered it. I spent a little time here a year ago, but I've got a business to run, family, etc., so forgive me for not having you guys on the top of my priority list.

I sell a fair amount of Ford Motorsport (Europe) competition parts on Craigslist and to other Ford-related internet groups, and Craigslist is pretty good for my purposes.

Someone else emailed me off Craigslist and told me I ought to check up on what you people were saying.

In fact, I had forgotten so completely about this group that I actually tried to sign up just to respond, and finally figured out that I was already a member when it rejected my application because "another member is using that email address."

I'm certain a moderator, or the webmaster can easily verify this.

Any of you stopped to consider that I'm selling this out of my home/garage, and the risk for selling to an "unknowing Craigslist looker" is way to dangerous these days? See, they would know where I live... I'd have no idea where they live. Try mulling that over when you have a family and a nice home, and consider whether its worth the risk to really piss somebody off when retribution these days is a lot worse than having somebody post a remark on Craigslist.

Further, ANYBODY on Craigslist who's serious about buying a motor for $4K+ is for damn sure gonna come to the party with a LOT of questions, and want to look at the internals.

Should I post this for sale here? Or, can I just expect a lot more crap from you guys, instead of serious questions about WHY I think this engine is worth what I'm asking for it?

To the member who brought up DSS... Great motors, but they're far more affordable NOW than they were a few years ago. Yes, I'd love to do a stroker, but preferably a 327, or 331. Then again, you never brought up the point that DSS charges $299 for their support girdle, another $250 or so for their pan, and it its not baffled for road racing. You supply your own flywheel, mine is billet, etc., etc.

Somehow, I don't think you bought your DSS motor and plopped on a bunch of crap stock parts to complete the motor, now did you? So, you've got a LOT more invested in your motor than just the price of the short block.

I started building this motor 5 years ago, and at that time 347 builds were highly problematic, and 327/331's had problems with the oil rings leaking oil past the wrist pins. One of the primary reasons for going to a 5.0 in my setup is that I didn't want to have to deal with a complete tear down and rebuild on a regular basis. So, the decision at that time was that a 347 was too problematic for my budget and time.

As regards somebody's comment that this n/a motor would never see 400 HP: http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0307_ford_302_v8_engine_buildup/index.html

That's just carb'd. If you know EFI and put together the right combination of injectors, TB, MAM, headers, etc., 400HP is easy to reach with this AFR combination and the GT40 intake. Heck, Edelbrock & Holley claim 375HP just by installing their heads, cams and intakes... But I guess they're full of crap too.

On the other hand, I'm pretty damn sure companies like those would make certain of their claims and reputations before advertising such figures. But yeah, there's no way my setup can reach 400HP with the right injectors, etc., etc.. [Roll Eyes]

edit: As regards 650-700 HP, if you're supercharging or turbocharging, it ain't really the c.i. displacement, its whether or not the motor will hold up. That's the point of balancing, and adding a stud girdle to spread dynamic and reciprocating loads throughout all the mains.

You can boost these things all you want as long as you stay below 6250 rpm... Still, some are gonna last 10 minutes, or 1/8 mile, others can do a whole season, get torn down and X-ray'd, and live again. The only thing I'd do different for added durability would be to add or weld on a valley girdle.

Really... Priced one on eBay these days, Junior? How about the combo of that GT40 Upper, AND a port-matched GT40 lower manifold?

Last time I checked eBay last week) GT40 Upper went for $300, and one combo sold for $600, and a beat up one sold for $545, or so. Which is more valuable, the upper or the lower? $250 is reasonable. Take yo shit to wannahaveitbutdon'thavetwonickelstorubtogether. [BS flag]
