Today I got a crazy letter from DMV, saying that my NON-OP registration is invalidated since they have proof that my 92 Coupe has been either parked or operated on a public highway under Vehicle Code Section 4000(A), and I owe them back fees on it. WTF, this is crazy, the Coupe has no motor or tranny in it and hasnt been out of my backyard since I bough it over a year ago!!!
Well I called today and DMV told me it was a mistake on thier part, it was a plate mix up with someone elses car. [ March 09, 2009, 01:37 PM: Message edited by: racsirx ]

Even if it doesn't have an engine it could still be parked on the street so a pic of the empty engine bay wont do any good.

The only thing I can think of is, maybe DMV got mixed up with which Mustang I got into an accident in November, since I have 4 of them in my name.

You reported that accident, thats why. If it even TOUCHES a Public Road you are liable for all the back fees up to date [ March 14, 2009, 06:20 AM: Message edited by: HaulinAss Motorsports ]

I wrote a letter to DMV asking for the proof and who did the reporting. By law, it has to be a police officer or equivilent. They dropped it when I pushed the situation, as they couldn't enforce a call-in.
If this is the car you reported the accident with, you're hosed.

Write them a letter requesting proof of the violation. Also include the reference of the vehicle code and state that you are aware of the do's/donts of in-op status. You'll be fine. I'll look around and see if I have my old letter, you can use it as a sample if ya want.

No doubt, I'll bet they sent out letters to anyone that has a car on non-op to pay back fees. I'll bet they'd get quite a few checks in the mail and just tell anyone that calls "oh sorry, we made a mistake".
