Hello all, we just bought a house and it already has home security equipment installed but is not activated. I wanted to use some of the sensors already installed but with a new company. Who are you all using for home security companys? Anyone know of any special deals going on now? We are in Modesto btw.

I use platinum and had ADT. I think they are all pretty much the same for the most part. Just make sure you have all the necessary sensors in place. My monitoring is like 25 bucks per month. Oh and check with you local city offices. In stockton we needed a permit for our alarm.

They have been alright for the most part. No complaints and got a cool deal. No install fee, free equipment and hella free sensors (you have to bargain to extend their deal). I had ADT, had a lot of issues with them. Haven't tried brinks but their price was high.

good luck

Whomever you go with buy different signs to put in the yard. That way any would be theif wont even know the system you really have. I've heard you can go online and find out how to bypass specific systems so I wouldn't advertize which company you really are going with.

Even so on that note we went with Protection One. They have been great. They have live online chat that will answer all your questions. They're prices are good, equipment all wireless, all kinds of different package deals, FAST response times as we've set the alarm off a number of times by mistake. They call right away. We have free fire monitoring. If the fire alarm goes off when we aren't home they will send the fire department they wont even call us so if we aren't home that is hella cool. Also you don't need sensors on all the windows. I'll tell you right now we don't. Go with one or two crash sensors and they cover all kinds of area. I wasn't sure about the crash sensors but they have set of the alarm too when dishes have broke.

The only downside is they are 3 year contract which I think is pretty much the norm though. Go with them you wont be sorry.

Oh yeah,...the permit thing is no joke. Expect to put out another $50 for that.

I placed calls to both Platinum and ProtectionOne. Platinums prices have gone must have gone up a bit they were talking like 44 a month. ProtectionOne said like 27 with cell backup and everything. They are coming out to see what I need, so hopefully I can negoiate on my equipment.

Cell back up is cool...when we had ours put in it cost a little more money but is was a flat rate more money not more money per month. Same goes for the fire alarm monitoring. The fire alarm was $100 but free monthly monitoring...when working with installer not the assement guy, he threw it in at no charge. You just have to work with them they are pretty cool. We tipped him $20 for doing the fire alarm. One crash sensor covers both dinning room and living room (at our house). That saved like 7 window sensors we would have needed for those two areas. Saves you lots of money that way. We have door alarms on ALL doors though. Don't skimp on that.

my wife has the alarm on when she is home alone, just keeps the motion sensor off. when we leave we put it in away mode so motion sensor is on. GET A MOTION SENSOR!

The dude that comes out will know and wont try and jack you, you'll see. They guy we got to assess the house was strait up and told us what we really don't need and the best bang for buck. If you have the money then go all out but if your a little strapped he'll be able to secure your whole house. As you can tell were pretty happy with their service. My favorite part is the live online chat. I've used it a ton of times whenever I had simple questions. Cuts out having to call on the phone.

Congrats on the home and you will be sleeping much better at night soon.

I have this going on also, but when you have a wife thats first impulse is to grab the phone and not the gun it creates a problem lol. This is more for when I am not home and she is. Believe me I grab my gun first and calling the cops is a distant second.

Haha, yeah I kind of figured that after I posted it up.

Teach her to use it and be comfortable, but smart, with your firearms. You don't need brute strength to operate a firearm just a good eye and the know how.

I would say go with ADT.. I hear a lot of positive comments about them from people I know.

And when I'm not home my dog handles business for me. lol

But I do see your point... doesn't hurt to have any/all kinds of security systems/methods in your house [patriot]
