I'm looking to get a dirt bike. Not much riding experience, just want something to throw and ride around. Nothing too nice, I'll probably just wind up keeping it since it'll be cheap.
Looking at either 2009 Kawi KLX140L or a Honda CRF150. I know if I ever want I can do the 175 bore kit on the Honda. Whats your input on these two?

don't know how big you are or how much experience you have, but check out a 4 stroke 250cc bike of some sort, like the crf250, or 250x, or the yamaha yz250f or wr250. Great bikes with a lot of power that are also forgiving.

Not big, only 5'7 150lbs. I'll be fine with a 150, I just want something to ride around the trails for now until I want a street bike.

I'd go for the cr250 , I like suzuki 125 also . . but watch out for those red stickers if you want to ride at hollister or prarie city, Or want to ride all winter long seasonal kind of thing. Pismo no longer inforces the red sticker rule . . . [ October 29, 2008, 02:08 PM: Message edited by: Fast_Bitch ]

suzuki 125 has a stong motor but u are a little to small u will bottom out the bike alot.if you get a 4 stroke 250 like the honda they good bikes iam currently 5'7 150 pound and ride a 06 suzuki rmz450 so it really all depends how long you plan to keep the bike and 4 stroke motors anr more reliable then 2 stroke

I've got an 04 Yamaha WR250 and think it's an incredible bike. I HIGHLY doubt you'll be happy in 6 months with a 150, my son doesn't push his 125 and when following up hills etc it clearly doesn't pull the greatest.

Guess I'll check what they'll do for a CRF230F at MDK. I hope they'll match what OTD Cyclesports quotes them at. [ October 29, 2008, 07:04 PM: Message edited by: Black 02 SS ]

Not to be rude, but if you want people to laugh at you at a track/course then get a CRF150R, CRF230, ect. CRF150's are cool if you pit bike them out, like 50's and 70's. Stick with a 250 four stroke. CRF250R or X, YZ250F. Modern 250's have very managable power. 450's aren't that bad these days but 02' to 05's are basically point and shoot. You can pick up an 04' 05' 250F for cheap with alot of parts (hubs, wheels, pipe, valves, ect.). I put a full lenth Pro Circuit Ti exhaust, jetted, and Race Tech suspension on my CRF250R and that bike ripped hard. [ October 29, 2008, 08:04 PM: Message edited by: Joooestang66 ]

youre going to hate life on that little bike, and to be honest youre going to hate a four stroke. If youre in to going fast, and are even some what of an adrenaline junky this is the bike for you. Two stroke power is uncompromiseable. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/mcy/889564837.html [ October 29, 2008, 08:57 PM: Message edited by: fr5.0 ]

wo stroke power is fun but uncontrolled power 4 stroke power is controllable and has as much as a twostroke and now daays how 4 stroke is coming out with fuel injection dirtbike they blow 2 stroke out of the water cause on 2 stroke you have to rebuild a topend every so many hours its kinda like the two stroke you have two mix gas and oil is everywhere , carb gets gummed up but they are very fun so its basiclly all preferance

sorry didnt know he was going to finance a dirt bike and fuck up his credit. I was just letting him know the best bang for his buk. I wasnt telling him to buy the $2500 bike, cuz you can find them all day for under a thousand. Its his first bike, so he should get a bike thats exciting but dosent cost to much if he decides mx aint for him. So shit dude go get a 2009 crf 450r fuck it if its not your cup of tea!

hahah we're far ways from the question. im not trying to spend all that on a dirt bike, just getting a beater for trails like stonyford or carnegie and shit. it's going to be cheap enough that i'll just wind up keeping it for good as my beater bike. i could care less about hauling on a dirt bike, that'll come later when I feel like copping a gixxer. i dont care about image or what people think either, i've got no problem riding the baby bikes. just confused on how if i was to finance the bike it would fuck up my credit?

LOL that is funny rite there . They are 1 step up from a moped . On a serious note You don't want to be climbing up a big ass Hill and have to try and turn around because You don't have enough power to make it, been there & done it in My earlier day's on a 80cc 2 stroke and it can get pretty hairy bieng hung up on a big ass hill . Go with a minimum of a 250, My last one was a honda 650 enduro and it was a handful!
