your best bet is to go on youtube and listen to different setups... it'll give you an idea of what you want....

i got Slp 1's on my 98 an it is way to loud....i like it loud but i want a deeper noise for my Mach.

I like the basic 2 chamber off road h pipe on foxes. The bassani with the bassani x off road sounds badass too and is not as common as the flowmasters. I have a bassani x pipe with cats and borlas and they have a more mellow tone.

Stainless Bassani X-pipe w/ Cats and Stainless Bassani or Borla Catback. I still pass the sniffer w/ no problems.

I am a fan of the old school flowmasters. I have had 40 series 2 chamber flows on two 5.0 cars with the off road h pipe. It is loud but not as much as some of the others. The sound is nice and throaty too. I have heard this setup on 4.6 mustangs as well and they still sound real good.
