wrecked my brand new bike yesterday. I was riding with some guys, and from what they said I went too hot into a corner and grabbed too much front brake. ended up bout 15' down an embankment. almost lost my finger, maybe got caught on a branch or somethin cuz it lost a bunch of tissue and a little bit of bone. right now theres a pin going through all 3 bones to hold it together. I got 6 stitches between my big toe and the one next to it, dunno how it got hurt cuz i was wearing boots. got some abrasions on my shoulder I guess from the inside of the jacket or somethin. otherwise pretty damn sore. I dont remember anything from a few minutes before, til almost to the hospital in the ambulance.
I'm stickin with cages from now on. I cant afford another one of these
oh and heres my bike

You are very fortunate to be alive, glad to hear you made it out with only superficial wounds. I lost 3 friends in a matter of 2 years in motorcycle accidents and have a brother that refuses to stop riding despite a bad crash he was in. I personally will never ride a bike again.

what type of bike was it? Did you have lot of experiance riding or was this a freak thing? just curious. Glad you are still alive to talk about it.

it was an 08 buell firebolt xb12r. I had put 600 miles on it in a matter of a few days. my last bike was a 98 yamaha yzf600r, i put a few thousand miles on it over a year

WHOA! Man sorry for your loss and the pain you are in,...take a couple Vicodin and count you blessings though. Stories like this freak me out. I ride and have two little kids at home,...everytime I pull out of the garage on that thing I say a little prayer to bring me home safe.

That sucks i am glad your ok.
My GF is looking into getting a bike right now.

Did you go over the handle bars? I did that on 193 last year and was out of work for a month. I was laying there on the asphalt with the ambulance coming, and the first thing i said was, "is my bike ok?" If you put 600 miles on it that quick, im sure you'll be back on another one soon. Shit happens especially on bikes.

Man oh Man are you lucky. All of us as riders can get a little over our heads here and there. But sometimes we dont get second or third or fourth chances. I don't know the layout of the road, but that could have turned even worse if you crossed the double yellow and went head on with another vehicle. I've done that myself (crossed the double yellow) when I first started and remind myself from time to time that I don't need to push my limits on the streets and save it for the track. Luckily there wasnt another vehicle in that area at the moment that happened. Anyhow, be safe out there EVERYONE. Remind yourself the consequences that can happen on one simple mistake. If you want to show off or impress someone or just want to increase your skills BRING IT TO THE TRACK!!!

If you plan to ride again you should really figure out exactly what happened. To be honest..there are no accidents...just collisions. Did you actually brake during the corner and stand it up mid-corner or did you lose the front or something(lowside)? Those are the things you might want to consider (and learn) before throwing a leg over again. If you don't learn from this then your just asking for it.
You (and many others) will be really suprised on how fast a bike can take a corner without ending up in the weeds. What messes it up is the rider or actually the wrong rider inputs that are put to the bike when entering or leaving a corner. My guess is that that you entered the corner hotter then you usually would and you had the natural reaction to hit the brakes(in a panic). This of course, stands the bike and aims you straight off road. Perhaps you might have saved it if you put some gas in and looked through the corner.
Good luck to you and be safe (smart).

Sorry to hear about your bike........Oh, yeah and you're ok I guess....
Cobra Phil has some good points, but now all you can really do at this point is learn from your mistakes....
I went through Polameris(sp) canyon the other day, and I was seriously taking it easy...There are a few increasing radius turns and it really fucks you up when you hit an early apex and you're already leaning the bike as hard as you can...Everyday I ride, I learn, but shit happens...
Are you gonna get another Buell???

since nobody was riding my bike cept for me, and my memory was wiped, i possibly may never know 100% what caused it. from what I was told by someone else, I hit the front brake in the turn. sure sounds like an accident to me. I sure as hell didnt do it on purpose

Lol...I know what you mean. Actually in terms of riding an accident is something that could not have been prevented. In your case (collision)different rider inputs would have had you through the corner and you might not have bit it. I suggest in either taking some formal instruction or perhaps have some seasoned riders go follow you to see what your doing. There is definitely a learning curve and if you get rid of the bad habits first you will be riding for a long time...

Cool pics, once again, sorry bout the bike man....
.......So, ya gonna fix it?....$6000.+ in damage???
Posted by z pyro (Member # 3745) on
:
it's only 6k+ if you replace just about every part on the bike, at the price the dealer listed. a lot of the stuff isn't broken, it's either just scratched up (engine covers) or it's on the list for no reason whatsoever. like the passenger seat. it's completely covered by the cowl (white plastic piece), and the cowl itself only has a bit of scratching on it. there is absolutely no way the passenger seat needs to be replaced. getting the bike back to rideable will seem to be from 2-3k. i dont mind scratches on shit lol
oh and i've found at least one site with oem parts cheaper than what the dealer listed

it looks better than I thought it would. I can feel your pain my first brand new bike I bought when I was alot younger only had 1000 miles on it when some asshole ran me off the road...it sucks seeing your new bike banged up.
Posted by z pyro (Member # 3745) on
:
alrighty so i talked to the insurance co a bit ago...long story short if they keep the bike and pay off what i owe on it still, I end up with ~$6000 and no bike. if I buy it back it's $2900, and I end up with ~1600 in pocket, and i own the salvaged, broken bike. i still get another 1k or so back from the warranty, 300 for the helmet and probably around 125 for dmv fees so I'd have ~3000 after all that, which would go to fixing the bike. I'd end up about even (from the 8k I put down), and have a 600 mile, salvaged yet working bike for about $8k. so i may just buy it back and be :ride as soon as my hand works again
the parts estimate is assuming the forks and tree need to be replaced. they may or may not, I wont know til i can check it

you put 8K down on the bike? if thats the case keep buy it back!

You are lucky. My brother was hot rodding and ended up dead after hitting a tree at 90mph.
Good luck and be careful there are alot more people affected than you can ever imagine when and if something happens to you.
Watch out for other drivers too.........

My GF's brothers friend crashed his bike a couple of days ago, he was dragged 300 feet underneath a car before the lady pulled over.
On the same day a husband and wife out riding crashed, The husband died yesterday.
My captain last year told me about a bike accident he pulled up to with the Engine. The dude was dead when they arrived but they thought he was cut in half because they didn't see his legs. Then they realized his legs weren't missing they were pushed up inside his body. Only his ankles and feet were showing

From your story it seems you were going to fast for your abilty to ride. Instead of worrying so much about your bike you should start thinking more about riding at your pace. Not talking shit but I was where you were at. Once you have a couple more accidents you'll learn. It took my dumbass 4 good ones to calm the F*ck down. Good luck with riding and stay safe homie.
