I just noticed that the price people are asking on a consistant basis, has jumped up a considerable amount in recent months. Are people really pulling these prices? Did the foxes just hit a milestone or key year that I dont know about? I bought my 88 for 2500 and my 89 for 2k bout a year ago. Now I see people asking 4500-5500 for the same years as mine and in lesser condition. I just feel like I am missing out on something or some info.
Whats the deal?

Yea I can dig that. You always bloat the price a bit. But damn! There is a hell of a bloat going on these days. It was easy to get a good fox for 3k, but now a days 3k gets you crap. This really isnt a rant just kinda wondering whats going on. I wouldnt have even clicked a link for a clean title, bone stock stang for 5500.

Nate its been this way for a couple years now. I don't understand it either. 98% of fox body mustangs have been beat to shit by one owner or another. 98% of fox body owners are kids with little money and a heavy foot.
To me a fox with about 150,000 miles, mint interior, zero leaks, passes smog, tastfull mods if any, clean title, 7 out of 10 paint job, 5sp, no dents, no accidents, 3 or less owners is worth about $5k - $5.5K And that is still a stretch.
The fact that these kids post their mustang for so much is 'kinda' cool in the sence that maybe they will bring the value up on clean fox's just by asking so much for their POS.
Any amount over that the car would need to really stand out,...(in a GOOD way). [ July 24, 2007, 12:06 PM: Message edited by: Jdub07 ]

I am not having any problems selling my Foxes close to my asking price, the funny thing is I am getting people willing to travel to get them, I just had a guy come from Seattle Washington to buy my 92 Coupe with 186K miles for $6K, also I have had buyers from Canada and Florida come and get them, and these guys always tell me them been looking for a clean fox for 6 months to a year. I think Foxes are alway going to be worth alot more every year, I have seen the market go crazy on them for the last 10 years.

Jdub said it well. It is *very* hard to find a clean fox that hasn't been beat to shit.
There are so many out there that won't pass smog, have salvaged titles, or are just thrashed in general. If you look at foxbody's in the sub $4k range most have a list of problems.
IMO it is worth spending a little more $$$ on a clean car then to save a a few hundred and get a bucket that you will have to dump tons of time and money into and it will still be a POS. [ July 24, 2007, 06:08 PM: Message edited by: 92stangLX ]

but, i guess like the housing market, it goes up and down. lol. and they aren't making 5.0's anymore, so there's demand, but little supply. just as in classic cars.

This coming from a guy who wheels and deals them all day long 365. Only the clean ones though. You always have the cleanest stock mustangs for sale.

But makes it harder to get into the hobby for the youngsters that mean well.
trade offs.u gotta pay to play. If the youngins want a cheap one get a cheap one if they dont let them save their money for a nice one. I'm really glad things are like this actually. Its makes it nice for us enthusiast to know a nice clean 5.0 is worth more than the usual POS 5K craigslist stang. However over the last few years the fad of 5.0s has been the notchback where as before that its was the Hb lx's and before that it was the HB GT everyone wanted. Its been nice to see all the body styles be the norm some years and not the next.
Shit a few more years and our cars will be classics [ July 24, 2007, 07:42 PM: Message edited by: CLEEN 50 ]

I have had 4 fox bodies. I sold three of them.
The cheapest one went for $5500...
If I think a fox can't fetch at least $5K, I am willing to bet it is not clean enough for me to be proud to own it. I am pretty picky however.
I've gotten multiple offers on my 93 coupe. All over $8500 and I refuse to take it. Why? Because I won't find a cleaner one for that price.
Clean (and this is relative, but I have a very distinct definition of clean) foxes can easily fetch $5-8K... Lee can vouch for that I am sure.

ive came to the conclusion the best option is to just buy a 4 banger lx or coupe. That way you know the car hasn't been beat down to shit and just do a swap.

I definately dont think a swap can fetch a high price tag. Makes me wonder if I should go back to hording 50's like I did a while back and just hold onto them.

yup theyre definitely going up in price, which makes we want to keep my fox more and more over my sn95. i agree a good condition stock one can go around 5k but what is funny is when these bucket stangs with primer and unfinished business all over are being listed on craigslists for 5k just cuz they think its the going rate.

It depends on what your ultimate goal is for your car. If you plan on keeping it forever and you keep it under lock and key then a 4 banger swap is no big deal. Just keep your receipts in case the worst happens.
If you want to resell it then that is another story.
I was going to do a 4cyl conversion but found a good deal on my car, needing a motor yet having a clean title.
