Well my AC went out and it is hot as snake pussy in Stockton so I had it fixed/charged. Well I got billed 250.00 is that alot? I paid it of course but it just seemed like alot. He said 60 per pund of r12. I required 2.5lbs. plus labor then tax of course. Does that sound about right. I may have to go flash on homeboy if he got me. But at least my AC is kickin now. R-12 is more expensive and rather hard to get ahold of. that price sounds about right.

Got my system recharged for 70 bucks. I put in a new compressor, hose, line filter, and filter dryer for 390. It helps to know people though.

yeah that sounds about right, the r12 is more money (cause its older and not as easy to get) plus you factor the time of year it is, its always cheaper during the winter to get tint and ac work done.

dont buy that expensive r-12....bws has generic r-12 that is not ok for new compressors because it voids the warranty, but i got it in my car for half the cost of r-12 and my car gets f$%^#n cold

r12 is not easy to get these days
the places that do have it can charge whatever they want, as you see...
I don't think 250 was unreasonable
does it work now?
do you know what labor and additional service parts were required?

nah its for my car. It seems that this is about the going rate. I am kinda cool with it since it seems this is about right for a non-friend hook up. And the AC is ICE COLD. When I got home I had the feeling I was had, so I thought I would ask.
It was 60 bucks per pound on the r12. ANd I needed just under 3lbs. and 79 for the labor. They normally charge 98 per hour on labor. [ June 16, 2007, 11:42 PM: Message edited by: N8 ]

I used one of those $40 Kragens retro kits on my 92 and followed the directions...55 degree air on a 100 degree day.

True, freon just doesn't go away. Either the system was opened, if so the seals may have issues, or there is already a leak somewhere. "Generally" a good shop will not just fill up a system without doing a diagnostic/pressure test to verify the freon will not just be leaked out. You'll know within the next month or two.

He did say he put some dye in there and to come back in a couple days to see if there are some leaks. It is a pretty reputable shop so I hope they will stand by their work if there are some issues. But thanks for the heads up man.
