This diesel engine got pulled out of a truck at my job the other day. The number 2 piston is melted down, it completely coated the valves with aluminum, and when the rings shattered, it took out the other pistons. [ September 30, 2006, 03:50 AM: Message edited by: mustangdude24 ]

What do you mean by a "turbo staying on too long". Look at wide injector spray pattern, it's definatley a modified 6.0.

It is a 6.0, but it's not modified. There's a valve(I think the EGR valve) that gets stuck on them sometimes and causes the turbo to stay on too long or to over boost. [ September 30, 2006, 01:50 PM: Message edited by: mustangdude24 ]

Whoa!
Makes me think twice about pegging my 35 PSI boost gauge in my truck!
( I know the 6.0's push a lot more boost than my 7.3 )

I always thought it had to do with the Variable Vain shit they have on it. Carbon build up causes it to stay open and create too much boost. Or at time it can cause it to get stuck closed and have no boost build up at all.

I'd be surprised if it didn't have an Edge or some other type of programmer set for 60 psi. Just because it came in with nothing on it doesn't mean that it never had it to begin with.

It's a company truck, so I'm sure it's not chipped. Plus it's the second engine that's came in for this. One was last year, different company, and wasn't quite as bad.

Damn, looking pretty hurt.
Is it the EGR that screws up or is it the wastegate for the turbo?
