Basically, I don't know jack about computers. But I do know that mine is about 5 years old and a POS. I'm just wondering what is a good brand to go with? I have been looking into Dell XPS and HP setups. I don't need anything super fancy. I wont be playing games or even downloading music. I just need something that is fast and reliable.
Thanks in advance, Drew

I would have one built. They can build it to do exactly what you need and nothing more. That way you wont have all the extra crap that you will never use. Most places offer a warranty just like any computer, and they are usally cheaper. I live in Ohio, so I dont know of any places out there. Whatever you do stay away from compaq.

It also depends on what you want to do with the computer... hell you could spend like $8k on a comp from alienware and be able to do oodles of stuff.

Go with E machines, or gateway computer. i picked mine up a few months back from circuit city and got a killer deal. I ended up getting like $300 back from mail in rebates. Its fast and i like it. Plus look what kind of deals are out right now.

Here's a recommendation:
HP m7000y PC Pentium 3.0Ghz CPU 1GB RAM upgrade 160 GB drive upgrade Double Layer 16x DVD Read/Write upgrade HP vs19d 19" LCD Flat Panel Monitor http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_series.do?series_name=m7500y_series&catLevel=2&category=desktops/media_center&storeName=computer_store
This setup will set you back a little over $1000.
If you go a different route I would look for a PC with the following:
- at least 1GB RAM/memory - 120GB Hard drive or higher (I would get over 200GB) - 19" or greater LCD Monitor (buy a good monitor and it will last you forever!)
PM me if you have any questions. I've done this type of thing for my freinds quite a bit

get a 3+Ghz dual core processor, DVD recordable option and at least 2GB of RAM, 200GB Harddrive, and you should be ok.

a 3ghz dual core cpu is overkill for what this guy wants.

i agree. a cheap dual core (prolly a pentium d since they're so cheap nowawadays), 2gb ram, a nice roomy hard drive, a dvd-rw, and a nice lcd and you'll be set.

I know Drew and all he needs is something he can check out Cafords pretty fast. and Download some Mustang vids here and there and for his girlfriend to load her Digi Pictures onto the computer. No games or music thats why he has a Truck with Satalite radio and why he has a 360. He needs it simple but reliable. No dual core shit.

Ok. I have the best solution for you. try this link; http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/topics/global.aspx/arb/online/en/InventorySearch?c=us&cs=22&l=en&lob=DIM&s=dfh It is the Dell Outlet. You can get a great computer for dirt cheap. I currently own 2 Laptops from the outlet. My PC is a Dell also, but I paid full price on that one. For what you are looking for, these are perfect. Also input what you want and don't want. Good Luck.

If you're not a gamer and don't plan on doing any heavy video editing, just get whatever $499 Dell special they have going.

Dell has a sale at least once a month, my dad go his whole system from them for like $500, 17" flat screen included. It's fast and reliable. Wait for their sale, and jump on it.
