This is for a 1998 civic. Just wondering if it is worth it to buy a code reader, and if so, how good are they? How much does a shop charge to read you the codes? (in and around Redwood City area). Thanks

go to your nearest autozone and rent the obd2 scanner. bring it back to them and get all your money back. its pretty easy. all you have to do is follow the on screen instructions. it can also clear codes and whatnot.

you don't even need money or a credit card. Just give them your license and use the reader in the parking lot. When your done bring it back in and get your DL back.

So you do actually "Rent" it from them. Not buy it and return it (shady style)? If so does the same thing apply for Kragen?
