So has anyone damaged there knee before. I was Snowboarding on the 8th, and took a good fall, basically twisted my legs backward behind my head with a 270* twist counter-clockwise, until my knee made a very audiable POP. I walked it off, it hurt, but didn't think much of it, well pain level was a 4-5 for a week, till Easter when I bent down and my knee gave out, shooting the level to a 9-10. So monday I went in and had it looked at. Well, preliminary diagnose is a torn meniscus. (The muscle behind and wrapping around to the outside of the knee) But if you tear that, 60% + people also damage 1-4 other muscles. From what I feel and read, it looks like I also tore the MCL as well, as disloacted the Patela and that is now rubbing the Femur ever tine I squat. So tommarrow I get an MRI and will know for sure.
But anyone else ever get anything like this, and if so, what was done for it?

I tore my minscus, the mincus is actually a pad inside your knee between the bones. You'll have to have ortoscopic surgery. Don't worry i was walking pretty much normal the next day after surgery. i walked with mine torn for 8 months. If you don't get it done soon i will warn you now you'll feel a pressure building up in your knee and when it lets go it can bring you to your knees the pain is that intense. So becareful.

I tore my ACL just over a year ago while playing around on my dirtbike without health insurance! I took one day off from work and have been working on it even since. I'm have been actually scheduled for surgery twice, but have had to cancel due to financial reasons.

I had a bad tear in my miniscus also from wakeboarding, blew out the lateral one from a hard landing, felt it pop. I had surgery last febuary in 05 and took almost 10 months to recover right. Tons of physical therapy and its still not right. Some people are walking and back to normal right away I was not so lucky =(

Whatever you do get a second opinion from another doctor. I messed up my knee pretty bad two years ago, it was locked in a 90 degree flex for about 6 weeks. I went to a doctor, got an MRI and he told me I tore my ACL, MCL and damaged the cartilage, very bad news. I got a second opinion from a top notch knee doctor, he looked at my knee and the MRI and told me I had severely strained my ACL and MCL and that the cartilage was slightly damaged, no surgery necessary. My knee healed on its own and has been 100% ever since.
Moral of the story, get a second opinion before going under the knife.

I should also mention your knee will never be right. I've had both knees operated on and if i do intense cardio the next day one or the other is swollen or hurting. It sucks but theres nothing you can really do except take MSM.

I don't agree with that at all Dana. My knee has been great since the surgery.

do you run a lot? if your not active it won't give you problems but if you run a lot like i've been doing for the past 2 weeks it'll catch up to you. This entire week both my knees have been swollen and aching. i think the one i had operated on maybe 10 years ago is swollen right now.

What kind of cardio do you do? Intense with your heartrate in the 80% area or with your heartrate in the 60%?

Yes, intense. Isn't 60% for fat burn
I generally am on the precor machines at 24 for cardio. Seems to be MUCH more effective than the treadmill or bike.

precor? you mean the eliptical? I seem to get a better "cardio" workout running than doing the eliptical. I can burn about 150 more calories running than at the same speed on the eliptical. It depends on what your trying to accomplish though. Yeah the lower your heartrate the more fat you burn.
Well to get back on subject, Jon you may have some pain still after surgery and you may not. I can leg press 740lbs no problem but after doing 20-30 minutes of cardio the next day i am either feeling it in my knees or i am not depending on how intense the cardio was.

Well no worries there. I am too busy to get to the gym. Only runing I do is after my boy, so I think I am in good shape as far as that goes.

Thats good, it may ache for a year after the surgery and when a storm is coming in you'll know it before anyone else.

i tore my meniscus, which was already said is not a muscle but the little pads between your bones. I had mine repaired rather than removed, so it took forever and a day before i could put any weight on it. if i had it removed i would have only been down a month or so, but later on i would still have no padding in my knee.

They don't take the entire pad out they just cut off the broken part of it There could be a small cm piece in your knee that ripped off and is hanging on hte pad that can cause you grief. They cut it off.
