I am looking into getting a 302 based stroker for a foxbody. I was just wondering if it would be better (and cheaper) for me to buy parts separately and take them somewhere to get installed or if I should go somewhere to have someone build me a good long block.
I am looking for a 331 or 347 stroker with aluminum heads and capable of withstanding a small shot of nitrous (for track use only). It would be best if this combo was smogable.
My budget is somewhere along the lines of $4,000-$5,000 completely installed with all miscellaneous parts needed (including installation, but not purchasing of the nitrous kit).
This car would only be used for weekend joy rides and would not be driven too hard, I am looking more for a reliable engine that will produce in the area of 400 rwhp off of the bottle.
Is this possible, if so any recommendations?

Gaskets, bolts, oils, wires, all that stuff that comes up at the end or during the process of installing the engine. I just want to make clear that my budget is the max that I can pay for an engine to be built and completely installed.

I would say check with some of the side job guys on the site to lower your costs on installs. I doubt you make 400 rwhp, the fastest N/A 347's on this site are in that area, and you wouldnt be able to reproduce them for that cost. What are you doing for intake, MAF, Injectors, etc?? Unless you do some hardcore barganing and shopping around.
With a 4-5K and wanting 400rwhp N/A in a smog legal motor all assembeled installed and tuned is but a pipe dream.

I was trying to be optimistic about the 400rwhp out of an N/A stroker for my price range. I would be more sympathetic to dropping the hp than to raising the budget. I just wanted to know if it was feasible, and mainly if anyone had done something similar to this (in this price range). Any experience that you would like to share? The more detailed the better.
On the other hand thanks for all the recommendations, I will give those machine shops a call and see if we can work something out. [ April 12, 2006, 05:14 PM: Message edited by: menlo pony ]

I'd go with shaun ALSO, he build my car when he was working for another shop and my Cobra put down 540rwhp on a safe tune!
If not shaun I would go with HCI Motorsports -916-643-2291
