Well, my son and I just got back home today after making a long trip to El Paso Tx. We went down there to retreive his car which had been stolen at Hot August Nights last year. Police said they had been watching this place for about 18 months and finally pulled the bust 2 weeks ago. Regretably his car is pretty much gone just like the other fellows whose post I was reading. The cylinder heads, intake, exhaust, rearend, dash and all of the interior is gone. The body is intact, but that is about all I can say. We will probably use his current driver to fix up the old car. There was a ton of parts at this garage where they found his car and about 30 others but none of his stuff had any id marks on it to prove it was his. Supposedly after they finish making a list of all the stuff that was there they are going to try and match the parts with theft reports and get some of it returned. Don't know where he will stand with his insurance company since they already paid him for it. I guess he will find out monday when he talks to them. Hope the guys they caught get a nice long vacation in prison.

It was a 67 coupe that we had converted over to efi. It had a 6spd trans and about 5k worth of stereo in it. It was riding on boyds with kuhmo tires. The engine was a 302 with afr's, trick flow intake, long tube headers, comp cam and the paint cost him about 7k when he had it painted. It will have to be repainted if he can manage to keep it since it is all scratched up now. The car had Dakota Digital in the dash, Recaro seats and a full custom interior. He had about 40k in it.

Just wondering why you went all the way to TX for a car that now will have a salvaged title and you knew was stripped, when insurance paid you off already.
Really just curious ![[Confused]](confused.gif)

He talked to the insurance co today about what the status was. Per them, the car does not have a salvage title at this time. The car is still titled in Colorado where he lived at the time. He says they are looking into whether or not they can sell it back to him.He has owned this car since he was 15(first car and he is now 31). He took his honeymoon in this car and his kids came home from the hospital in it. That car was his alter ego. He is driving a 68 Mustang now for his daily driver and he says it will become a parts car if he can buy the car back. He was really depressed when the car was stolen for quite a while. Funny how we can get attached to inanimate objects isn't it. But that is why we made the trip to Texas to retrieve a shell with a shortblock.

I just hope the Insurance Co. Payed what the car was worth and your son recouped some of his hard earned $$. He should be able to buy his car back since the car was just now recoverd. Best of luck.

There were several mustangs there, but the bulk of the stuff was gm and import. There were parts everywhere you looked and we found a big barrel sitting in the corner that was full of license plates. The officer we talked to said they found more parts stashed at a storage unit they had been watching also. He said they probably found about 3-400 sets of plates and that didn't include the ones we saw in the shop. Apparently they were trying to tie some loose ends together between several places before they finally busted them. The good thing is these guys are out of business. It sounds like the police have a very good case. As far as what the insurance paid originally, I believe my son got around 30g, but not sure. My son says most of the money is still in his bank account. It was really sad to see him when he saw the car. He just broke down and cried. He darn near had me crying too. I told him that if he can buy it back, we will rebuild it. We did it once and we can do it again.

My son and his family now live in Redding. He was in the process of moving here from Denver when the car was stolen. He works construction and also has an "A" commercial drivers license so he does quite a bit of traveling hauling equipment for people. I remember when he first checked out Redding after my wife and I moved here and he said he couldn't wait to put the car in Kool April Nites. He said he wanted to cruise next to us. I told him he better get something bigger than a 302 if he wanted to play with the big boys. I hope he can buy it back, it would mean a lot to all of us if we could get it back on the street. I had a lot of time in that car also. He helps me with my Pro street Nova and my 69 CJ mustang. Thats what family is for as you all know too.

We sell lo-jack at my work, we put it in older cars all the time. They give you $5k if they can't find your car, plus the insurance money. It's the only anti-theft system ran by the cops too! Let me know if you're interested. -Brad

I have thought about Lo-jack for my own cars, but when I checked on it when we first moved here they said it wasn't available here. Don't know if that is still the case or not.
