I am thinking of doing an IRS frontend on my 68 to eliminate the shock towers in the front engine bay so i can change the spark plugs on the 428 bigblock easier.
Anyone know if it will weaken the car a lot?
Anyone know of a company that makes subframe connectors for a 68 Fastback?
Thanks
Dana

no it will not weaken the car if u get the right kit such as something from heidts and they utulize mustang 2 suspension ! the kit is about 2500bucks with rack and all but u wilol have to do some cutting and welding! mustangs use the roof and the rocker panels for their strength and the best subframe connectors are the ones from maier racing because they have two mount ing points on both the front and the rear of the connector and in the back they actually kick up into the wheel well section of the frame to hel utilize the roof for strengthning let me know if u need links dana!

You want to do an independent rear suspension on the front end of your fastback.
I think what you ment to say was IFS. Well your in luck because all mustangs are equiped with an independent front suspension.
Now if you really ment to say you wanted to ad a Mustang II front end to remove the the shock towers.
I used a Heidts kit on mine. Rod and Customs makes a good kit as well.
Gives you plenty of room for whatever you want to drop into the beast.

I would like pictures of what it looks like after its done and such. Do you know of a site that goes step by step in replacing the stock with the IFS?

Your car already has IFS, unless someone put a solid axle in the front [ February 12, 2006, 10:03 PM: Message edited by: silverLX ]

I didn't think the towers were considered IFS.

Theres a couple coil over kits out there i've seen, one is by UP but I dont know if I trust them, you could always notch your towers if you wanted to keep them to make more room. There was a guy on modularfords who notched his towers on his 68' fb to fit a DOHC, only person i've seen to do it.
Here's another IFS company: http://www.martzchassis.net/page3.htm [ February 13, 2006, 11:28 AM: Message edited by: jadesville ]

since you may need a fabricator to install your front end, have them install the subframe conectors directly through the subframe
