So on Monday last week the driver's airbag deployed on my wife for no reason. Nobody at Ford had ever seen this happen and Walnut Creek Ford said we were shit out of luck cause it was out of the warranty by 5k miles.
I ended up calling the dealership where we bought and they made some phone calls to Future Ford in Concord. It looks like they may take care of it for us at no charge to us and they've had the car since last Wednesday.
Here's the kicker:
I called "7 on your Side" the day it happened. Well I think they want to do a story on it caused they've called me three times today asking about. They asked if I was open to meet with Michael Finney and the show producer tomorrow and go to Future Ford to take pictures.
I told them I wanted to hold off until I know the definate outcome... I'm going to tell them I'm not interested in doing the story anymore if the car is fixed for free. If they say, I am still responsible for the car, then I'll do the story.
What do you think???

If the dealership fixes it for free you should tell 7 that you'll do the story only if you give them good feedback.
Also I would ask the dealership for their permission as well. Hell, it could be free advertising for them.

I don't think there is a point to the story if the dealership fixes it for free.. good luck either way.

i would do it because the first dealership tried to fuck you over. but make sure they give honorable mention to the 2nd dealership if they fix it for free

It will only make the Ford name look bad if I do the story regardless if it makes Future Ford look good. I don't think they'd (Future Ford) agree to that.
What I really wanted to do was show how shitty Walnut Creek Ford was for saying they wouldn't help out at all.

That's really bad man. If you're being taken care of, leave the news station out of it.

if the dealership takes care of it free of charge, and you do the story and it potrays them badly they came come back and sue you for slander for giving them a bad image(forgot what the term was)

That's what I'm gonna do...i.e, if it's all taken care of, I'm not gonna follow through. Especially with Future Ford being that they were so courteous and took care of us.
If they again say we're screwed, just like Walnut Creek Ford did, then and only then would I consider doing the story. I don't think that's gonna happen though.

What have they been doing with it all this time? Have they done any diagnostic work or are they just guessing? Are they saying the bag itself failed or a trigger failed? Is your wife making you buy her a new car yet? Mine would be!

Well I guess they're really making sure they know exactly what the cause was...as they put it, they can replace the cover, airbag, and module but won't be sure they've actually fixed what caused it. If it doesn't rain on Sat I wanted to go to the track but I'm not sure now if it'll be back on time.
My wife has been driving a GMC envoy that they loaned us...

twisted5.4 - Is there any damage to the bottom of the car or to the front end? Sometimes it may not look like theres any damage but there may have been an impact of somekind. Was the battery ran low at all? Was she driving at the time of deployment? Do you have any pics of the car lifted up? Any pics of the car after tear down of the front bumper cover? I have never heard of this happening and im in the auto body repair industry. I am very interested in what caused this- Im not doubting you but sometimes theres more to a story than what people can spend the time writing on a message board.

How's it going...I don't have any picts but the car has never been in an accident, or even a MINOR fender bender. The battery wasn't low or anything. The truck 100% stock and in perfect condition with 55K on it.
Fortunately she was sitting in the car on the driveway when it happened. The only thing that I could think of is that the right turn signal had started blinking really fast just the day before so there's a possible short of some type.
I think if either dealership would have come to the conclusion that we hit something, they would have pointed it out especially Future Ford. They've had the car for one week today. [ February 01, 2006, 11:26 AM: Message edited by: twisted54 ]

wow. Crazy! Did she have the ignition on? Was her seat belt on? You can call out a company that will scan the compter, im not sure but I think there might be a code that will tell you what sensor triggered. [ February 01, 2006, 12:45 PM: Message edited by: WIKD 281 ]

Crazy indeed...she thought someone shot her in the head.
The car was on warming up and I'm guessing her seatbelt was on.
Future Ford could have fixed it a long time ago but they want to make sure it doesn't happen again so they're being extra diligent.
