Speed TV, they are showing the Barrett-Jackson auctions live. It was sold with a mactchin serial number toolbox, ordered with any option the buyer wants, tools of SVT to watch the build, signed visor by CS, and Edsel Ford, and all the proceeds from the auction went to The Carrol Shelby's Childrens Foundation.

It got that high because of the extra crap, the 1st one out the door, and (I hope) mainly the children's fund.

I quit watching B.J. a while ago. I got tired of watching a bunch of stuffed shirts up there flaunting their money to see who can get the most toys. $2mill for a hemi cuda conv?? $1.8mil for a chevelle?? Lets get real. B.J. is just a place for the rich to rub it into the normal guy and whow off to their buddies. All the money they blow on their toys could go for a lot of better things in this world. They also ruin it for us normal guys. Now everyone thinks the car they are selling is worth a fortune. Sorry, but I have better things to do than waste my time watching these guys show off.

You gotta realize that the only ones that have been fetching that kind of money are the numbers matching real deals.. not some piss poor conglamoration we normally see in Sundays classifieds. Yes.. the sales of the "numbers matching" cars has also affected the same cars we see in the classifieds but not beyond the average Joes reach.
The cars at BJ are normally the real deal.. the whole package.. the numbers matching rare find. Has BJ drove the prices of these rare finds up? I would say so... but even before BJ there were the "Reggie Jacksons" and "Jay Lenos" willing to pay top dollar for those same cars... cept they werent tellevised on BJ.
If you ask me I think its great that the muscle car icons of America are fetching insane money. They should.. they ARE the staples of the good ole' days. Doesnt it make you feel good that a 71 Hemi Cuda is fetching more then say a Lamborghini Gallardo? The 71 Hemi Cuda was out of my range before BJ.... and now its just even more out of my range... but Im not bitter about it.

I'm not bitter about it. I'm just saying it is still just a bunch of guys with money playing the "he who dies with the most toys wins" game. I think it is great that people are finally recognizing that the american muscle car is a great piece of machinery. It seems like it is always the same group of people buying. If you watch it long enough you will start to recognize some of the people at the different shows. Regardless, american muscle rules, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

They actually get 8% buyers commission, and 8% sellers commission. Plus the cost for each potential bidders registration to get a bidding card is $375.00. They make some coin off all those sales. [ January 24, 2006, 07:36 PM: Message edited by: 1Sicgt ]
