Sand Rail. My dad use to have like 3 of them at one time. I just think about all the money I have dumped in my Mustang, and wonder if I had saved a little of it that I could have a pretty cool VW sand rail? Does anybody else go out to the desert on a quad, dirtbike, or even a Rail? What do you guys think? Just something else fun to do. It's either that or build or Buy some type of Rock Crawler? I think the Crawler would be more money?

sand rails aret that hard to build they are more fun then most rock crawlers . . . and they dont break as often . . . but if your only planning on going to pismo dont waste your money on a sand rail . . not enough room there , stupid snowy plovers

Alot of guys run the Ford 2.3 Turbo in sand rails. 200 h.p stock, 300 with a little tweaking! Throw some $$$ at it and the skys the limit!

It's always cheaper to buy something built and build it yourself when it comes to dezert toys. Go to Race-Dezert.com, there's tons of rails, buggys, prerunners, trophy trucks, class 1's, ect. in thier classified section.
Single Seat Rail
Another Rail
Turbo Rail Twin Turbo LS2 1000 hp Sand Car
This is one of the baddest sand cars/rails I've seen. The guy wouldn't give the specs but no one would race him.

Rails are cool. but you can only do one thing with them... i like the fact that i can go to pismo and have a blast in the jeep, and then go up to the mountains and do some rock crawling.
i'm goin to hollister hills this saturday

Thats something I wouldn't mind. Although Shifty's Idea with the little ford motor sounds pretty good. Never hurts to have some more power. I am pretty stuck on the Idea.
