I tried doing a search for this topic and nothing showed up. So here it is. Does anyone here uses one? What are the good ones and what specs are good, cordless or not? Is it cheaper buying it in a local Electronics store or mail order? Do they really work? I did a little research myself. What I found out the 2 best are the Escort Passport 8500 X50 and Valentine One. Also will the cops give you a hard time if you get pulled over and they see it on your dash board. The advice on the ones I've read is put it away when you get pulled over. Thanks!

I've got the older model(2001-2002)Cobra Radar Detectors in the Lexus and the GT, both work great, especially for long road trips. I've never had any questions from officers about them when I get pulled over, and I do believe Radar Detectors are legal in 49 of the 50 states, except for Virginia or W. Virginia.
A friend has a smaller,newer(2004), digital face Cobra detector, and that didn't seem to work as well as my old one did when I tried it for a week.

I'm using the Passport 8500 and it's ok. It has saved me several times I've ridden with a friend that uses the Valentine. I prefer the Valentine, better bogey filtering. The best part is that the Valentine tells you what direction you're being hit from.

i have one that was on my car when i bought it, it has sensors that go behind the back window and windshield so the actual detector is under the radio kind of hidden. it seems to be pretty useless since it only gives a couple seconds warning

Im sorry but I find your post absolutely hilarious.
They work great..... yet the cops that pull you over never question you about it?
Think about that for a second. LOL

LOL , good one, nice catch I got pulled over in the city though for tint & plates, not speeding. I dont trust them too much for city driving cause of the false signals. Highway though is a must have.

I've heard good things about the K40 unit and the Passport are good, and worth getting if you're trying to do this on a budget, but nothing beats the Valentine One with it's bogey counter, and directional meter.
As for cops giving you a hard time... Well I got pulled over 2 months after buying my V1... I got paced. First time in my life I was paced, after midnight, didn't pay attention to the car that was getting on the onramp behind me.
I've also been clocked by a plane, before I had a detector though.
So there are reasons to get pulled over that a detector wouldn't help with.
Oh yeah, I've gotten pulled over for Exhibition of Speed... no radar, no warning.

I don't know which ones work the best, but I do know that if a cop hits you with a laser or ka band and then watches you slam on the brakes when there is no way you could have seen him, you could probably bet on getting a ticket. The cop may give you the ticket just to prove that your radar detector can't "beat" him.

LOL.
I've used 3 detectors and thought they were all garbage. I should point out all of them were under $150.
I've heard the V1 is awesome! They work great..... yet the cops that pull you over never question you about it?
