That whole mentality of "yeah.. Give me a cobra and 30k in mods and it will destroy a z06" makes me laugh.. I'd say.. Give me Honda civic and 50k in mods and it'll destroy that cobra too.. Once you start modifying a car is no longer about the potential of the car but about how deep your pockets are. [/qb]
Compare the amount of people that have modified Cobras vs. modified Corvettes ON THE STREET and you'll see my point. I drive pass 3 C4 model Automatic Corvettes on my block everyday that are washed weekly and probably never abused. This is why I see them as a mid-life trophy car that most over the hump husbands own just to show off. There may be some exceptions but I just don't see enough around the bay to make this statement so. This may be different for C5's on the road course though. If you're taking about the "modifying a car is no longer about the potential of the car but about how deep your pockets are". (grammar) Why do you modify your coupe then? To perform better right? Weren't you looking for a coupe because of its rigidity and lighter weight compared to a GT or Convertible Fox body? If you talking about the potential of a car and not modding it buy a Ferrari/Porsche and be done with it. I wouldn't buy a $65,000 Chevy just to get mopped on by a 10-second Cobras with Ported KBs that spent less than $45k. Or Turbo Fox bodies that spent prolly $20k. Luke87GT was FIVE seconds slower than the C6 and EIGHT seconds slower than the ZO6 for probably spending $40,000 less. If that doesn't talk about "potential" for you, than I don't know what does. Last time I logged on, I noticed this was caFORDS.com. Where's the Ford GT(40) on that list anyway? I don't understand magazine racers sometimes. [/qb]
Although I agree that the fox has tremendous potential with the right parts, I must admit, I was totally, fully, and utterly kidding when I threw my name into that elite list, lol (: Didn't mean to spoil your arguement. My car's handling has improved a LOT since I redid the suspension with all new parts 600/250 springs, Tokico's, new bushings, etc. I played with a z06 a few weeks ago on the backroads of Highway 4 between Pinole and Martinez (you locals know what I am talking about), and he made me look silly. The vette was so smooooooth and sooo flat in the turns. Truly world class! [/QB]
