I've been bouncing back and forth about what my next DD will be and MKII Jetta's have been stuck in my mind since I started thinking about getting a "new" DD. Does anyone know anything about them? I'm thinking about picking up a GLI model since its the sportier version of the bunch. 16v 4-cyl should be decent fun on the street...maybe even in the twisties??? If anyone has any input on these cars please chime in! I'm looking to keep it stock aside from maybe some upgraded BBS-style wheels and lowering springs.
For those who don't know, these are MKII Jetta's...

Have fun with the maintenance! Especially it being an older vw and all. (not my personal experience, but from what I've read.)

VW's can be good cars if maintained properly.
I'd personally go diesel if I were shopping for an older VW to daily drive. Better MPG and more reliable engine.

I had one and it was a problem child..they have all sorts of weird intake, valves etc to make everything work. Its all OBD1 so figuring out which piece doesn't work is like looking into a magic 8 ball.

An ex-GF of mine had a '90 GLI. When it ran it was awesome. A true German highway cruiser. When it didn't run (often) it was a PITA.

I had a 90 wolfsberg edition it was great when it ran I hated changing the starter it is part of the front motor mount. the last time it broke down I just left it for dead and it got crushed and sold for scrap

im very knowledgeable. owned like 4, my brother has one now.there like any other car, the rubber lines and plastic on the motors normally always need replacing, and there gd for another 5 years. the interior plastics can be bad on models where the owners where rough or slobs. but they run forever, hardly ever break, drive great.great gas.i really like them.
