What kind of cage you building? Drag, Road Racing? For drag racing you can get away with using thinner wall tubing then road racing, imo I wouldn't just becuase it is a life you a re playing with. Tell me what you are looking to do I can help you with layout.

check out http://www.cachassisworks.com/ i bought one of there 8pt kits with swing outs and a cpl extra parts and had a friend weld it in. it came out OK. the main hoop is what you want to fit up tight the rest is just basically cut and weld. So if you bought a kit from them and fit the hoop in there and its not as tight as you want send it back. Personally, if i did it again id fork out the few extra beans and have a pro build me a custom cage. http://www.maierracing.com/

Check out the pictures on wolferacecraft.com. There cages are the best fitting I have seen. You can see the placement of the bars and then fab your own. You will need to bend the hoop, rear bars and door bars for best clearance. Also the door bar can be installed as a swing out for getting in and out of the car easier.

bro, its not worth making your own cage, Chassisworks (sp?) in sacramento they have all kinds of stuff in stock and cheap, I wanted a custom 10pt cage for my mustang that wraps around my dash, I searched for three days and even started to built one myself, but I realized they had exactly what I wanted for $256.00 It would of cust me for for materials.
