That's 70 cents per round. Check Ammoseek.com, you can find M855 for quite a bit cheaper.

It's not a super good price, but the fact that you found any ammo is a score.

In the current ammo economy...that is a fair price.

Not a bad idea. If you run across .22lr, snap that up too.

Before everything went down, I was buying
Pmc 55 gr brass for $299.99 plus shipping ($30) for 1k rnds
Better ammo, parvi partisan 62 gr fmj bt $400 for 1k rnds shipped to my door.
Top notch match grade parvi partisan fmj 75gr bt $460 shipped to my door for 1k rnds.
Looks like you bought some green tip stuff which= steel core. steel core is magnetic ammo which almost all ranges dont allow any more.
if your out shooting in the middle of nowhere or prepparing for the apocolypse its fine. blow some shit up.
I know ammo ain't what it used to be on price, but hopefully what I posted helps you or anyone else see what giant mark up is going on. just keep the hunt on at wal-mart and you'll see 100rd value packs of .223 pop up here and there for $38.99 which i feel is fair considering the times. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Federal-Ammunition-223-Rem-55gr-Full-Metal-Jacket-100ct/17128629

if you wait you can find something alright in the $1300-$2000 range. a "good AR" is a pretty broad statement. there are so many manufactures and so many things that some consider good and some consider top notch. really depends on what your trying to do and what you want out of it.
Im probably $3k into my game gun
and about $1500-$2k into a nice bullet proof rifle that i would consider a good piece to carry if i was going into battle.

Man, the ammo gods smiled upon me today. Scored 250 rounds of 9mm for $85 on Calguns, went to Bass Pro to get some scope rings and they had small pistol primers, then I went to Walmart to buy some dremel stuff and they had 100rnd Winchester 12ga bricks.

Keyword being "IF". Its like building your car, do you really want to get all the way to the track and find out you cant race? same thing I really dont want to get to the range and find out that a round wont load out of every 5, or get jammed etc.
On guns I have always taken the higher road because I've been down the lower road. Buy once, cry once.

I was getting 1000 rounds of that for $435.
I've been finding cheap stuff lately for $.265 per round for .556
I'm pretty well linked up through all the shops in the Central Valley, so I usually here about upcoming deals.
