This popped up on another board, and I was curious as to how it works.
With a CARB legal blower, and the car stock otherwise,(Except injectors) in theory it should pass smog. Does the stock tune have to be stuck back in the car to pass, or will it pass with a tune as well? I am curious how this works and I plan on finally installing my blower, but not if I have to worry about some tech blowing my motor by getting into boost during a test if I need to put the stock tune back on.
Thanks for any real info y'all can provide!
(Just realized I posted this in the wrong section, sorry. Can this be moved?) [ April 27, 2012, 07:49 PM: Message edited by: kast1376 ]

It will pass with a tune in the ECU, the smog tech should not get into boost. IIRC they only take the car up to 25MPH on the rollers.

Ok, that is good to know!
One more: Are the techs required to stay in 1st gear to get to 25? I plan to go with 3.73 gears, and 25mph in 1st is around 3800rpm, which I believe would be into boost?

The tech has to keep it at a certain (I think 2-2.5K) RPM @ 25MPH for 30 seconds while monitoring what's coming out of the tail pipe.
It has been a while since I've smogged a vehicle, so it may have changed, let's see what other people have to say.

I have no idea about the rpm thing but I have 4.10s and a V2 SQ blower and recently passed smog about a month ago, he didn't go into boost.

you have to be in 2nd gear for 25mph test and it has to be under 3000rpm i know im a smog techa nd yes it should pass if your tune has it burn clean and only rich under boost
