is there any issues with the burner flame also? although a cracked or damaged chamber is a cause for unsafe condition an efficient burner should not produce to much if any CO.

The pilot light tube isn't tightly sealed (according to pg&e) only the hood is mentioned being rusted completely and is unsafe to use. No cracks in the pipes are mentioned.
