If i have mac shorty headers, do I have to run a mac h pipe in order to achieve proper fit? or could i run say a bbk or a bassani?

I assume the mac would fit a lttle better, just because most exhaust systems are designed to work with each other. When you start mix-matching you sometimes run into fitment problems. However fitment problems and MAC sometimes go hand in hand. I would opt for the Bassani if you can afford it. You "should" be able to get a good seal.

yea i've heard that mac has fitment issues that's why i am kind of opting for the bbk or even possibly bassani.

Yes... You need to run the same brand(at least I had the problem). i couldn't get my Mac equal length headers to bolt onto my bbk highflow h pipe and vise versa... Couldn't get my bbk unequal length headers to bolt onto my offroad Mac h-pipe.
Hell, even trying to bolt up my BBK longtubes to my BBK highflow hpipe, wouldn't bolt up. I had to open (make them wider) the tubes so they would fit. However both the Mac and BBK headers bolted to the stock H-pipe
