Topic: Some pics from my fire assignment

These three pics were taken on my 2nd day of being on the fire. They were taken in rapid sucession so you can see the fire activity. We just finished cutting an indirect handline down from the top of this ridge to the creek below. Right after this picture the fire jumped our lines and we had to run from it. The winds were working against us.

LOL the only way for a handcrew to stop fire is by cutting fire line and if you notice there is line already in. we were holding the line and chasing spot fires, its the only way to stop the fire without water. We lost it because there was only 4 of us chasing spot fires and we got too many spot fires and couldn't handle. The fire was making runs with the topography and the wind direction and we didn't have enough time to start a back fire.

No, taking a picture only takes a quarter of a second and its my job to take pictures of fire activity to report back to command on what the fire is doing. Its the job of a FEMO FF.

I am uploading a video of a slop over we caught and barely held. In the video you can see what a fire whirl looks like. The winds were changing so much and coming from all directions to create the fire whirls. The smoke is always blowing one way but the fire can create its own wind. Fire Whirls are extreme fire behavior, very very dangerous the ones i filmed were only 4 to 6 feet tall but i have seen ones 50+ft tall.
