I have free and it seems pretty quick not as fast as my cable at home. I am deciding on whether to keep paying for it past the free month as a second access for my laptop.
I bought the USB bluetooth for laptop and it works fine.
Any dropped areas of coverage? I've only tried it at home and work and got great reception as where with nextel I had no coverage.

I too have the latest from Verizon.
So far it works decent but does have a few little quirks but i'm not sure if it's my POS laptop
Once it's connected and running it's actually pretty quick faster than my DSL at home.
Never had any drop-off spots but i did notice some really slow loading of sites when i was out in Mountain House (Tracy) but for the most part it does the trick especially at the track if i ever need any info or to send logs to my tuner etc.
