So, I have been interviewing an a few companies over the past few weeks. One place got back to me last wed and offered me a job, at the time it was the only offer i had, so i agreed to start tomorrow. However, today I had an interview and was offered a job on the spot, go to choose my new location, (its a much easier commute and closer to home). the pay is the same, but at job #2 is union, and they get time and a third on sunday and both have health coverage. Any ideas on how I can break this to job #1 without burning a bridge ? and which job would you choose ? they both agreed to work with my school schedule. one is a chain the other an independent(#1)

#2 is best, just tell employer #1 the truth that you have been on the job hunt and got multiple job offers. Same thing happened to me a couple years back.

[patriot] Just tell the truth. You got a better offer.

[patriot] you dont have to tell them the whole story, just say someone called you today with a better offer.

Thanks for all the input, I think ill go ahead and continue on with job #2. I was just feeling unsure about pulling the plug on job #1 , but job #2 is union and the benifits are listed on the company website. And when I went to interview at job #1 it was more about them checking me and my experience. Out, which is fine, but I'm feeling a lot less informed about what they offer the worker. Which in turn helped me ask that specifically at job #2 ,bc I already knew I had the offer from #1.

So thanks, and ill keep it simple like you guys suggest,, Dan, I'm still in school, taking automotive electrical systems. next semester is brakes, steering, and suspension(all one class). And I might take heating and a/c also(a night class), then engine performance the following semester. And then that's all the courses for the certificate. I plan on applying(for auto shops) after the brake class though. I feel ill have a pretty good foundation to enter an actual auto repair shop then. I wish these were multiple offers for that already , that would be great. I plan on taking some ASE tests after electrical while its still fresh. When the school once again offers classes to become a smog tech, Ill take those too. I'm like half done with my current course work.
