Need a good tuner anywhere from the Bay area to Sac, tried calling Shaun at AED a few times but haven't got an answer. I want a respectable shop planning on making a lot of power don't wanna blow it because of a bad tune, thanks.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Nextgen.

Anybody here have their car tuned by TPS?

+1 on the pickiness comment. I felt like they feel they are too good to even consider to work with people that don't have setups they approve of. For instance my car was turned down on a tune because I have turbo with stock computer. Yet other tuners will accommodate my needs. I understand it's easier to tune on a non stock computer car, but why turn down something because it slightly inconveniences you? I'd have been happy to pay more money if it took a little more troubleshooting time. But I have no hard feelings, and would still highly recommend aed for anyone local looking for a good tuner.

I was absolutely impressed with AED in all aspects. I have not personally met Drew but my experience with Shaun was great, and I feel that the drive to AED was totally worth it. I will not be taking any cars any where else for a tune. I am a picky bastard and I was very pleased.

I don't think they are really picky. I think they are more confident and knowledgeable of certain tuning parameters and not all (just like all tuners). I would take that as "I better bring my combo to a tuner that is more familiar with tuning on a stock computer" which is better for you and them:) No hard feelings:)

When you say "stock" computer do you mean there is no tuning devices being used right now?

The messages I don't return are the
'Hey, my car's broke and I just need to know what it is and how to fix it.'
calls.

I don't run a tech hotline, so don't expect that kind of service.

Met Both, they are cool people. The only reason that I can think of ANY HONEST tuner turning down any car, is either because they notice something not functioning right....or the fact that they might have fix another mechanic's mess up.

I am not a mechanic, but plenty of close friends are...and one of their biggest issue is fixing another Mechanic's mess up or Mickey Mouse ideas. AED is worth the drive. And they do it right. I was there when a car got turned down a few years ago.......My memory is a little shot, but I remember something along the lines of a vaccum leak.

Why would anyone want to tune a car that displays some issues...And has a possibility of being brought back because the Owner thought this issue began with the tune.

A good honest mechanic is hard to come by. But I would take my car to the shop with stangs in the garage that can pull low 10's all day. Rather than the shop with the cars that ran a low 10 once and needs to have a head gasket replaced.

To the OP, Im not trying to force a biased opinion on you, but Im sure you are weighing out the pros and cons for either of your choices.

AED all the way.

Trust me bro, when your tuning a car you want someone who is going to be open and honest with you about whether or not your setup is ready for the tune to be done. Shaun won't tune around issues, but makes sure its right before you get to that point. People tend to forget the tune is the LAST piece of the puzzle when everything else has already been properly setup. If things aren't in order, don't expect him to jump at the chance of tuning a car he knows has issues. Not only that but Shaun stands behind his work 100%. When you give that kind of service you want to be sure everything you put your name on is going to be LEGIT.

If you have any doubts go tour the shop and actually TALK to Shaun. I guarantee once you get an idea for the amount of accumulated knowledge he has about mustangs and tuning you will never have another worry.

I already talked to him, only problem is I got this car as a trade and the guy I got it from doesnt know what cams/heads etc are on there. But I'm gonna go get an inspection and compression test on it and make sure everything is mechanically sound then tow it over to him.

Wow man it sounds like you really are dealing with a lot of variables. Once you get that thing checked out you should definitely take it over his way. Keep us posted on the progress [patriot]
